More Than Me

For the debut release on my own new label IPSO with Kompakt Records, I wanted to try something different. The new label, IPSO is for me to invite a friend or a hero, - someone I admire musically to do a collaboration.
I’ve long been a fan of limiting myself in the studio. 
Sometimes working with less equipment brings out the best in you, so for the first release I figured it would be interesting to experiment with this. 
Inspired by the danish dogma films, I decided to make a rule. 
As I’m not one for overdoing things, the rule is very simple.
We are only allowed to use one instrument.
I reached out to my friend and all time hero Michael Mayer to do the first collab. 
Other than being co-founder of the mighty Kompakt records, and signing me in 2009, he is a genius in a dj Booth and a great producer. 
He has always been a great inspiration to me, so we agreed to start of my new Label with a bang. 
I set out the challenge, that Michael should choose the instrument. 
As I arrived in Cologne, Michael had chosen an old Yamaha Organ. Funny side note, is that it is actually Jörg Burgers organ. Jörg is actually quiet the legend himself, but that is another story. 
Michael and I spent 1 day in the studio, and we had a blast.

Adam Beyer’s Drumcode juggernaut attracts more fans and critical plaudits with each passing year. Holding firm on its future facing ethos, techno’s number one label presents a new volume in its acclaimed A-Sides series with 20 prime tracks to signify its 20th anniversary. 

Such is the volume of quality music Adam Beyer receives throughout the course of the year, releasing all of it would be impossible. Enter the blue chip A-Sides series: a chance for the quality-obsessive label head to issue a collection of outstanding tracks that couldn’t fit in their regular EP release schedule.

Rising DJ/producer Boxia makes his Drumcode debut, fresh from a well-received warm up set for the crew at the hugely successful Junction 2 festival in London, while the likes of Enrico Sangiuliano, Juan Sanchez, Ian O’Donovan and Timmo also drop fire, establishing their credentials as some of the most promising talent breaking through the ranks in 2016. 

Reinforcing the global scope of the label, artists such as The Junkies from Toronto and Layton Giordani from New York, prove techno is winning a place in the heart of the new generation of artists coming out of North America.

THE CONCEPT BEHIND POLYMATH:

Every artist has their own perspective, imagination, style and inspirations. They share this with the world through their creations and performances, their own musical concepts. Each concept is unique, as is every performance.

Polymath can be defined as ‘many talents’. The Polymath concept will ask different artists to create pieces inspired by their perception of a singular theme. This concept gives artists the freedom to share their own visions on a given notion, to push and stretch their boundaries of creativity, and to present inspired tracks and artwork.

Each Polymath release is an experiment. It will include three different artists’ pieces inspired by the same theme. This is tied together with ornate artwork to complete the bespoke showpiece.

MOE FERRIS - THE MAN UNDER THE HOOD #6

For the last number of years we have seen nothing but the very best sounds from Matan Caspi, and today is no exception. Here he delivers his latest offering, Distant Muse which comes backed up with remixes from Manu Riga and Persya. Apart from giving us super fine cuts Matan is running the label Outta Limits together with his good friend and production partner Stan Kolev. He is also busy with touring and concentrating on his future productions, where  you will find original, raw and innovative material. His last outing for Bonzai Progressive - Brain-Storm was well received and this was followed up by a double appearance on the ADE 2016 Compilation from Bonzai. All of the above doesnít leave a doubt that Matanís music will be heard on the most popular dance floors around the world.

The Original Mix is a sublime trek deep into the progressive sound, full of wonderful subtleties and nuanced elements that combine beautifully to bring that rich sound evident in Matan's work. Chunky kick drums lead the way as crispy hi hats and shuffling percussions form up alongside a deep and lush bassline. A myriad of FX and one shot synth hits are perfectly placed for maximum effect enhancing the stabby, more prominent layers. On the break we are treated to some excellent key work that bring in rich melodies before the synths are slowed down and then sped up to a brilliant climax and the back into full on mode for the duration. Top notch stuff indeed. 

Manu Riga is up first with his Progrezz Remix and in true Manu Riga fashion, he knocks it outta the park. An extremely busy and in demand artist, this guy remains consistent in his delivery of top quality sounds. His last outing - Unstoppable proved to be popular on the floors and various charts and we've no doubt this remix will follow suit. The remix definitely goes straight to the floors with a nice rhythmic drum arrangement along with cool FX and a subtle underlying melody. The track builds nicely with the bassline shoring up the dancey groove and the tougher edged synths keeping things moving. The break is where the magic happens here as a beautifully serene vocal captivates the mind and draws you in deeper before those chunky kicks take us back into full on mode. A must have no doubt.

Bologna based producer Persya returns to BP with a wonderfully constructed progressive house remix. His last outing - Heide EP - was back in June 2016 and made a very good impact on the scene. The intro allows us to dive head first into the deep groove on offer as a fantastic atmospheric sound is generated. Hypnotic melodies draws us in even more as chunky kick drums lead the charge. A deep droning bassline dominates the low end as the intensity increases. The solid groove becomes so immersive you are lost in its ethereal grasp and on the break this is more true. A stunning slice that will not disappoint.
