Creo que llevo tres días escuchando esta canción una y otra vez... es uno de mis poemas favoritos, y la interpretación es hechizante. Me imagino recostada entre las fuentes del jardín de mi propio palacio oriental, escuchando esto. Gracias a ti!

This is still my most played song on SoundCloud and one of my most precious recordings.

I actually wrote the lyrics to 'The Flow' whilst walking around Waitrose in Canterbury, Kent. The guitar part came later that day. 
I didn't think it suited my voice and really wanted my daughter Sophia (pictured above) to sing it but she was studying for her GCSE exams at the time. I pestered her until eventually she said she would have one go at it in her break. This was the first and only time she sang it.

The Flow was included in Tom Robinson's Fresh On The Net and has had a fair bit of airplay since then, it is still available on SoundCloud and Spotify etc, there is also an instrumental version of the song available.

Sophia's is now an F2 Doctor, so no harm was done in making this recording 🙂

Deft investigative journalism (reading the track info) reveals the voice actually belongs to his daughter, Sophia, who sings of being an uncontrollable fire that consumes all, then a waterwheel, perpetually pushed around, and finally the air, wind and breeze, “Delivering kisses and scattering seeds”. PAD Day 5: "Sonatina" by Rubén Darío

So, springtime means it’s time for PAD: the Poetry a Day Challenge. Come on, join the fun:) I’ve always been a rebel so I want to up the ante: I’m going to set to music in/famous poems, record them and post them on my blog. I know, this is probably wishful thinking, but I’ll try. Any suggestions in English, Spanish or YOUR OWN poems are more than welcome... not all poems work but I promise to give each and every one a try.

Bueno, la primavera significa que llegó la hora del Reto de Un Poema al Día, o PAD por sus siglas en inglés. Venga va, uniros a la fiesta:) Yo siempre he sido un poco rebelde así que voy a subir la apuesta: voy a musicalizar poemas in/olvidables, grabarlos y postearlos en mi blog. Probablemente fracasaré, pero de sueños también se vive. Cualquier sugerencia en español o inglés o vuestros propios poemas serán más que bienvenidos... no todos los poemas se pueden musicar, pero prometo intentarlo con todos y cada uno de los que propongáis.

I’m a bilingual writer, Fulbright alumnus, Kohler Fellow and PhD ABD, with a minor in Creative Writing, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I also have a BA in Journalism (UCH-CEU, Spain) and an M.Sc. in Comparative literature (Edinburgh University, Scotland). Since I came back to Spain in 2015, I've earn my bread as a copywriter and tech writer.
