it's all in your head

From 5 to 7 September 2025, I was invited to be a member of the jury for the John Cage Award competition in Halberstadt (Germany), organised by the John-Cage-Orgel-Stiftung Halberstadt, which is in charge of the Organ2/ASLSP project, a piece for organ by John Cage that is supposed to last 639 years and is played continuously, 24 hours a day in the Burchardi Church.

I took advantage of this wonderful opportunity to record this work at 20 different listening points for 7 minutes each.

I then used random operations with Andrew Culver's IC program (available on the anarchicharmony.org website) to determine the order of these listening points, their respective durations, the duration of the cross-fade between these segments and the type of fade-in and fade-out available in my audio editing software for each of the segments.

Nomi died from AIDS aged 39 and Purcell suffered an even more premature end around 35.  I include Dryden's words here, because they parallel both Nomi's impending agony and Purcell's (possible) cause of death (long exposure to the cold after getting locked out.)
