Despite it happening over a hundred years ago, the sinking of The Titanic is a subject which continues to fascinate.  Many may believe the ship’s misfortune in striking an iceberg was the simple reason for her demise but the true story is a catalogue of human error.  Investigation of the circumstances have unearthed a plethora of  mistakes that in their own way, all contributed to the disaster.  

In 1985, a secret mission to find the wrecks of two nuclear submarines unwittingly discovered that of The Titanic and since that time, ongoing scientific expeditions have discovered that the metal structure has created a species of bacteria that will eventually consume the entire ship, recycling the nutrients into the ocean ecosystem.  You can’t fight Mother Nature.  And you can’t fight those who'll always spot a way of making huge amounts of profit, no matter the grisly events from which they evolve. 

By 1998, tickets were put on sale at $32,500 each for tourists to view the remains and since then, fewer than 250 people have visited the site.  By 2021, OceanGate, who owned the Titan submarine, were offering tours to view said remains at a cost of up to $250,000 per person.  

Whilst understanding the continued scientific interest, I do find it macabre that the graves of those killed aboard Titanic, many from poor backgrounds, should become a tourist playground for the rich and privileged. That isn't to say I wasn’t glued to the news, hoping for a positive outcome in the rescue bid for those aboard the Titan sub.  It was deeply upsetting to discover that they had perished.  Some five years before the fatal implosion, specialists had warned OceanGate that the venture could very possibly end in such a disaster, yet I very much doubt the occupants, who had paid so much, were made aware of the fact.

I wanted to write a song that reflected how little we have learned in the century or so between Titanic and Titan.  It seems that, for rich and poor alike, the arrogance of greed will always be with us. (Terry Reeves)

(For those wondering what ‘CQD’ means, it was the first signal the wireless operator aboard Titanic used to call for assistance and means “All Stations.  Distress!” Later though, he did also transmit the more universally used code, ’SOS’).

A very informal cover of this Dylan song with my friend, Jack Beck, who plays guitar much better than me and we are just enjoying some nights to sing and play together and thought we'd try this, as we are both Dylan lovers. He is from Scotland and I am Appalachian and we have noticed how much we share in music and ancestry. we are truly one and music is the connecting force we all share. the lyrics we discussed, Jack said he felt 'crawling down the avenue' was more suited for a woman, which I immediately protested ..after all,  it was written by a man, even Bob changed that verse to 'Flying down the avenue ' but tonight Jack and I made a compromise and sang it 'Running down the avenue' Not this version here, as we didn't record tonight, ANYWAY! so glad to be back and sharing here, as SC froze all my songs and wouldn't allow me to upload anymore as I somehow signed up for a different membership , Had to wait for over a year for that to expire and I think I paid for the correct plan now! Yay! I have missed y'all and look forward to sharing more songs and listening to your beautiful music ! Thank you to those who remember me and still visit my page, I can Thank Tony Lyrics  for that! Alright. This is probably a long one. Apologies. I'm checking in. I looked through a few friends' profiles, and I saw some activity, which is great. But I can't check everyone - in complete honesty, the "stream" is an inoperable clutter for me anymore.  So I'm going a bit more direct. 

Currently, we're all good on my end. All healthy. I don't know if you all are like me, but this "social distancing" isn't anything for me at all. Avoiding going out and interacting with people is kind of my primary mode of operation at all times, and I absolutely never get bored. I'm not going to paint you with the same brush, but seriously, musicians are more or less all about self-entertainment, right?

I know everyone probably has a bajillion things going on, and I don't expect to get any messages per se - if you see this, just know that I hope you all are safe and well, and as little as it may mean, you're in my thoughts. (just because it's a corny and ineffective statement doesn't decrease its truth!) I have a tendency to be a bit pessimistic, but the thing that keeps coming back to me is how much more difficult this whole thing would have been - from a technology standpoint - even 10 years ago. That's kind of amazing. 

One major change I have personally noticed, in having a house full of family at all times, is that it's a bit challenging to holler at a microphone. Got Legos clicking and falling in the background, youtube videos, laundry, dishes, etc. So I've primarily been working on mixing and editing stuff I already had recorded. 

In this area, you guys are already a little ahead of the curve. I wrote a new story, and it goes along with not only several albums, but also with several different projects. (Comic friends: it's a crossover!!) It's called Time Machine Chronicles, and it's looking like it'll be about 12 story sections, in varying lengths. You have already heard at least two, but I'm bandcamping the rest as I get them tidied and trimmed up.

I have been working also on new tunes for Letterpress Mighty with Micah, and new tunes for Ruphord with Austin. Funny enough, I had been considering starting to play shows again - that's not happening for a while! We'll just wait it out, and see what happens!
