Recorded in 2009 - the first song we ever recorded together

This was the first song Denise and I ever recorded together, about three or four months before memoryhouse became a dedicated project. It was a spontaneous recording done really late at night, but it had this indelible nervous energy that gave Denise’s voice that extra hint of vulnerability that underpins Browne’s yearning, despondent lyrics so well. These Days ended up being a thesis of sorts for us, whose lyrical themes would go on to figure heavily in our first song, Lately.

These Days

"Two Way Street" blends mellow, modern tropicalia with the romantic lyrical stylings of Motown-era soul, giving listeners an intimate soundscape to sink into while they lay back on the sand and watch the sunset slowly dip behind the horizon. With soft falsetto vocals & beachy, organic instrumentation, it’s the perfect track for those who dig retro, west-coast styles.

"Fast One" by Renée Reed
 From her self-titled record coming March 26, 2021 via Keeled Scales. 

Renée Reed grew up on the accordion-bending knee of her band-leading grandfather Harry Trahan; in the middle of countless jam sessions at the one-stop Cajun shop owned by her parents Lisa Trahan and Mitch Reed; soaked in the storytelling of her great uncle, folklorist Revon Reed and his infamous brothers from Mamou; and surrounded by a litany of Cajun and Creole music legends, both backstage at the many festivals of Southwest Louisiana and on the porch of her family home. 

And while Renée's music is certainly informed by these deep roots, her dark dreamlike folk has more in common with contemporaries like Cate Le Bon and Jessica Pratt. It's also not unlike the intangible magic contained in Mazzy Star's songs.
