Leo Herrera is a Mexican writer, activist and filmmaker. His work focuses on the American queer experience. His short films explore LGBTQ culture, politics and history, paying homage to our past and educating a younger generation. Leo is the director of Fathers, a sci-fi documentary and multimedia project which imagines the AIDS pandemic never existed and a generation lived to change the world. Fathers weaves real-life events, survivor histories and fiction, creating a surreal vision of an alternative universe (streaming now at iftheylived.org). A literary detective story! Hazel Hawthorne(1901-2000) published two novels, several short stories, poems and book reviews. She knew everyone who was anyone, but most of us have never even heard her name. Edmund Wilson has called her one of the most gifted of American women writers, but she remains a footnote in the biographies of literary giants such as Eugene O'Neill, John Cheever and Edmund Wilson. 

This narrative podcast takes you to the shores of the Atlantic on Cape Cod, where Hazel followed the footsteps of Henry David Thoreau and carved her own path to the literary world. The journey begins when Inka Leisma sees a black and white photograph of Hazel in Berlin, Germany.
