This song was written at the same time as ‘Get Up’ which I posted a couple of months ago and is very much a partner piece to it. I’ve given it a more jazzy feel and upped the tempo from my first  version which I hope has given it a brighter and lighter feel. I’ve also multi-tracked the ‘Uh Oh’ vocal loop and added a few effects to make it a little more prominent in the mix - it is after all the title! I very much hope you enjoy this one and, if you have time, maybe leave a comment. The feedback I’ve had on the other songs has been really, really helpful ( and very encouraging too! ).

Longtime ago I had this recurring nightmare, a typical scene of being chased,  by something very frightening... 
I was running away from something very scary, down lanes, roads and passageways. In one of these dreams I ran so fast I had to jump over a fence that suddenly appeared in front of me,
 as I leapt over it I took off!  , I was flying!... flying through this city, 
 anyways, back to the point. Years later I had the nightmare again, but this time I was frightened so much I woke up ! 
 at that point I realised this was that old recurring nightmare, 
so I decided to go straight back to sleep and try to bring that nightmare back and go looking for what ever was chasing me remembering it was just a dream. And I did just that!
...in dreams you can be invincible :)

After our previous collaboration, I was so pleased when EllE (Cycle of Hands) agreed to work with me again on this new track, both with the music and vocals. It has not exactly been an easy ride and I have to admit that at times I almost gave up on it...but I am so, so glad that we both persevered, as '4am' has become something rather special and unique. Wallowing in the warmth of lower mids and melancholic melody.
Recorded, mixed and mastered on a Tascam DP 32 Portastudio using vintage gear gathered over many years.


Take a large bucket. Add a pint of Neil Young, a pinch of Glen Hansard. Wack in a tea spoon of Damien Rice, then an ickle bit of Tom Mcrae. Shove in a hand full of Mike Scott, a heaped table spoon of Neil Finn and a large dollop of Conor J. O'Brien. Mix with a big stick then strain through an old sock. Pour. What you have is a little bit of Mr C.

Hello good people of the cloud.
I play everything in real time and record and master on a Tascam DP 32 Portastudio. Although three of the older songs on here where recorded on a 8 track tape recorder through an old seck analogue desk.
No pc's are used or abused in the process of me music making. I love tactile recording. Switches, faders, pots and buttons. Mouses are for computers and eating cheese. No Mac, Daws or Windows, Midi or overused plugins. And no automated mixing, compromise being a large part of my final sound.
