MIMS is extremely excited to premiere the punk and funk edged jazz banger that is "Bloom Anubis" by the Dave De Rose led Agile Experiments.

Dave De Rose has spent years self-releasing solo albums while working for the likes of Moloko, Mark Ronson & Mulatu Astatke. In 2016 he inadvertently formed Agile Experiments, a collective made up of like-minded musicians who would gather to play uninterrupted and entirely improvised one hour concerts in unusual spaces.

Recordings of these quickly turned into a string of acclaimed and collectable vinyl releases featuring some of London and Athens' best improvising musicians. Dave's broad listening tastes however, gave the music a groove and space, distinct from much improvised music.

Inspired by the change in circumstance brought about by the pandemic, for the latest Agile Experiments record, Dave recorded himself, drummer & percussionist Giannis Angelopoulos, and saxophonist Josh Arcoleo, on separate improvisation sessions, before adding further instrumentation and electronic production.

"Bloom Anubis" is the first preview into this brand new sound and the title track of the forthcoming Agile Experiments album. A relentless groove hammered by bass and drums, elevated by Josh Arcoleo’s tenor sax.

This week, our mix comes from La Presidenta. Originally from Puerto Rico but a Manchester local for the last decade, La Presidenta has been a regular on the UK radio circuit, hosting monthly shows on Reform Radio and Rainy City Radio. 

La Presidenta's show 'De Rumba' is a monthly global exploration through the sunny diaspora of Latin and West African rhythms.

'This mix is meant to be a journey.  It takes you from traditional/classic Latin and African sounds through to many modern incarnations of Latin music.  It represents how I select at a party with the sole intention of making people dance and smile.'

Much like "Playlist To Paradise", "Late Nite Feelings" plays off the zeitgeist of the 80s & 90s moody R&B vibes, focusing on a much heavier take on R&B from his childhood. "I grew up on 80's & 90's R&B, for me they stand alone due to the very rhythmic and sensual vibe they carry which i hardly hear in today's modern take on R&B. So i wanted to recapture that & pay homage to my childhood of music i still love to listen to on a daily that is truly timeless. For me the 80s & 90s represent timeless music, i never get tired of it."

"Late Nite Feelings" is filled with dreamy, lush & blissful FM EP chords & keys from the 80s/90s with hazy, warm tape organic cassette rhythms from the classic 808 along with Jays signature fat & warm bass lines accompanied by sensual silky vocal samples.
