MIMS is excited to share the online premiere of Shamis & Rebiere's "Rock It For You". This groovy little number aims to capture the growing longing to dance freely,  and somehow finds sweet spot between modern funk, boogie and house. 

The laid back, mid-tempo drums, synth chords and soulful instrumentation, should definitely appeal to Kaytranada fans. But the tight groove is more than complemented by the smooth vocals of Shamis. ‘Let me rock it ’til the lights go out and the sun will rise again' he sings, dreaming of a care-free tomorrow.

The is the first song to be taken from a forthcoming EP to be co-released by Wicked Wax & INI Movement. It's also due to feature remixes by B. Bravo and Fouk, who add a modern funk and bass heavy house take, respectively. Release is due on April 30, on both wax and digital formats. Pre-order on the link above. 

Shamis and Rebiere previously collaborated on “Moonlove”, whilst Shamis dropped ‘Believe’ (featuring Yobe) earlier this year, which was subsequently remixed to great acclaim by bruk godfather IG Culture and his Likwid Continual Space Motion.

Following the success of his first single ‘Why Me’ with support from WorldWide FM, Twisted Soul, Soho Radio and Vibe Rating to name a few, Lewis Daniel presents his latest track ‘Endurance’ lifted from his debut EP ‘States of Being’ planned for 30th April.

States of Being’ is a concept EP : "I wanted to create a work which is personal and emotive for the listener to relate to, but also music that would make people want to dance. All of the tracks have deep personal meaning to me and in many ways illustrates the formative journey I, and others like me, have gone through during their 20s".
Endurance’ reflects these wider themes of persisting through the anxiety, grief and growth that occurs during this formative decade. It's a track in which Lewis is able to reflect on these struggles and the person he has become as a result of them.

MIMS is extremely excited to premiere the punk and funk edged jazz banger that is "Bloom Anubis" by the Dave De Rose led Agile Experiments.

Dave De Rose has spent years self-releasing solo albums while working for the likes of Moloko, Mark Ronson & Mulatu Astatke. In 2016 he inadvertently formed Agile Experiments, a collective made up of like-minded musicians who would gather to play uninterrupted and entirely improvised one hour concerts in unusual spaces.

Recordings of these quickly turned into a string of acclaimed and collectable vinyl releases featuring some of London and Athens' best improvising musicians. Dave's broad listening tastes however, gave the music a groove and space, distinct from much improvised music.

Inspired by the change in circumstance brought about by the pandemic, for the latest Agile Experiments record, Dave recorded himself, drummer & percussionist Giannis Angelopoulos, and saxophonist Josh Arcoleo, on separate improvisation sessions, before adding further instrumentation and electronic production.

"Bloom Anubis" is the first preview into this brand new sound and the title track of the forthcoming Agile Experiments album. A relentless groove hammered by bass and drums, elevated by Josh Arcoleo’s tenor sax.

Exclusive Premiere: Agile Experiments "Bloom Anubis" (Forthcoming on Dave De Rose Records)

“Coral Blossom” is a beautiful 14-minute long dream through dramatic piano chords and electronic arpeggios that ripple like water. Taken from ‘Surface Currents’, the beautiful new ambient album by the sonic explorer, producer, filmmaker and multi-instrumentalist known as Kutiman. 

With ‘Surface Currents’, Kutiman intended to create “music for doing things”, a tool to assist his own visual work. However, his experiments with ambient atmospherics and modular experiments produced a beautiful and calming three-part suite that’s perfect for nothing to as well. The tranquility of Kutiman’s isolated life in the Negev Desert comes through as much as the sense of water. 

Kutiman describes himself as having a “compulsion to create”, and he challenged himself to deliver a range of projects over the course of a year, each tapping into a different vein of his musical world. Soaking up the sounds of classical Indian ragas, Terry Riley and William Basinksi, particularly his ‘Water Music’ album, Kutiman was inspired to create his own take on ambient music, in the process, discovering that making long and slow improvisations with one instrument at a time was just as therapeutic.

Exclusive Premiere: Kutiman "Coral Blossom" (Forthcoming on Siyal Music)

MIMS is excited to share a brand new single from a new band to our ears, Poland-based jazz quartet sneaky jesus, whose bellicose "Battledance"  is taken from 'For Joseph Riddle,  their forthcoming album on a London-based label close to our hearts, Shapes of Rhythm.

The quartet exhibit a fresh sound on the contemporary jazz scene, drawing on Poland's own rich jazz heritage and current output, and at the same time absorbing inspiration from the breakbeat orientated styles of UK and US jazz, and the currents of punk and funk that run through them.

This quartet is formed by Matylda Gerber on tenor and baritone sax, Maciej Forreiter on guitar, Beniamin Łasiewicki on bass with Filip Baczyński on drums. Avoiding trends, they present a raw, sometimes discordant, but at the same groove-laden sound, not afraid of a little skronk.

Nor are they afraid of epic journeys into the realms of free jazz. Closing track "Minneapolis-Police Game-Radar" clocks in at 27 minutes, pushing the album to nearly an hour's length, despite only containing 4 songs.

Released May 28th on Shapes of Rhythm, available to preview and pre-order as of today on their Bandcamp page.

Melting Records is pleased to snag and reissue the rare album Five Finger Discount from Budapest-based producer Nándor Kürtössy, known here as Savages. Originally released in 2008 in a limited fashion and only on compact disc, the album has been sought after by hip hop and trip hop heads alike. Melting Records has now issued this classic album for the first time on vinyl and is ready to give these tracks the wide audience they deserve.

Nándor Kürtössy is a prolific producer, behind many projects like Kovacs, Savages y Suefo, and Vega Ass, and is also the founder of his own Hungarian electronic music label, Mana Mana Records. Five Finger Discount was Nándor’s first release, born from the previous few years of sessions creating tracks for himself and his friends. Encouraged to collect these cuts onto an album, Savages was created and this remarkable album revealed. Its legend has grown since the initial release with some considering Five Finger Discount a classic of eastern European hip hop culture. The album track “You’re My Chocolate” has since become quite popular among the Greek downtempo DJ scene.

The melancholic guitars and tranquil atmosphere of “You’re My Chocolate” are indeed special, and its languid beats lead the listener through an evocative journey told through sound. This cut is indicative of Savages’ vibe and is only one of the highlights on this jam-packed album. Cuts like “Lookin’ For You”, “Long Distances”, and “The Blow” also captivate by combining hip hop, vintage lounge, and dance floor appeal into a heady, sample-rich stew. Nándor’s sense of humor is also evident throughout as spoken snippets and spy-crafted rhythms intermingle within the playful arrangements. Savages is on point … and this Five Finger Discount is a hefty bargain.

Globetrotting Texan trio Khruangbin present the video for their new single ‘Friday Morning’. A song about “jumping into love,” ‘Friday Morning’ skips between laid back Isley Brothers-­esque vibes via delicate tempo changes into gentle hymnal passages.

On 26th January, Khruangbin will release their second album ‘Con Todo El Mundo’ on Night Time Stories. Continuing their world music pedigree, the band has expanded their global influences on this record from Thai funk to sounds of Spain and the Middle East, particularly Iran, from the 1960’s, 1970’s and beyond. Huw Marc Bennett creates a warm, deep, retro groove, the sound of sun kissed vinyl. He draws on Tim Maia, Augustus Pablo and Idris Muhammed as much as he does the Jazz scene and community he has found in South East London, with a streak of ‘Sain Records’ brand welsh phycyedlia running through the whole thing. 

Tressilian Bay started out as a long lost live session recorded at the  Total Refreshment Centre studios, featuring Chelsea Carmichael (Sax), Rosie Turton (Trombone) Shirley Tetteh (Guitar) Jake long (Drums) with Huw at the helm on bass and compositions. Huw utilised his human style of production and multi instrumentality seen in his project Susso (Soundway Record) as well as the glorious vocal contributions of Miryam Solomon, to mold these recordings in to this mature and emotional debut, with a subtle nod to hedonistic summer nights, whether spent on the glamorgan coast or the hot lewisham streets.

‘My Abstract Monkey’ is the first single selected from the upcoming album by the nu jazz musician and beat maker DayKoda. 

The young producer returns on the scene with a single that, in light of the recent global situation, will rise awareness against animal exploitation and deforestation. In particular, the profits form this single will be entirely donated to the WWF.

In tune with this theme, ‘My Abstract Monkey’ feels hazy and dreamlike; percussive hip-hop cuts, soulful atmospherics and highly skilled woodwind sequences. The track makes you swoon with its smooth and creamy vibe, something relatable to Stones Throw and Brainfeeder artists such as MNDSGN and Teebs. Special credits to the raw talent of the multi-instrumentalist Robohands, who features the track with an
effortless jazzy production.

Helsinki bassist Antti Lötjönen follows up his 2020 We Jazz Records debut LP with a new 7" introducing a fresh version of key album cut "Erzeben Strasse" and throws in a wild treatment by Petter Eldh's Koma Saxo on the flipside. "Erzeben Strasse" presents Lötjönen's Quintet East lineup in fine form, swinging steadily but also adding enough sideways movement to blur the lines just a little bit. The band features a stellar Finnish cast in Lötjönen (bass), Verneri Pohjola (trumpet), Mikko Innanen (baritone sax), Jussi Kannaste (tenor sax) and Joonas Riippa (drums).

The Koma Saxo treatment of the track, dubbed here as "Erzeben Koma" is full of fire. Uplifting, a bit hectic, beat-driven and jubilant, Eldh's band of brothers double the ensemble heard on Side A, both sampling and adding new recording into the mix. The entire Koma Saxo live band is featured here: Eldh (bass/production), Otis Sandsjö (tenor sax), Jonas Kullhammar (tenor sax), Innanen (alto sax) and Christian Lillinger (drums). The modern sound of Helsinki meet Mauerpark Liquid Jazz.

Music Is My Sanctuary
