Senator Amy Klobuchar, chair of the Senate Antitrust Committee, announced on Tuesday that the panel will hold a hearing on the lack of competition in the ticketing industry in the aftermath of Ticketmaster's problems managing the sale of Taylor Swift tickets last week.

Senators Klobuchar and Mike Lee, the committee's top Republican, did not provide a date or a list of witnesses.

"The high fees, site disruptions, and cancellations that customers experienced demonstrate how Ticketmaster's dominant market position means the company is under no pressure to constantly innovate and improve," Klobuchar said. "We will hold a hearing to discuss how consolidation in the live entertainment and ticketing industries harms both customers and artists."

Ticketmaster denied any anti-competitive practices in a statement.

In social networking news, Elon Musk told Twitter employees on Monday, according to a leaked recording of an all-hands meeting obtained by The Verge, that he wants to add video and voice call features, as well as secure direct messaging, to the social-media platform.

Musk delivered a "Twitter 2.0" presentation at the company's headquarters in San Francisco. He used the term for the first time last Wednesday, when he sent an email to employees demanding that they work "extremely hardcore" or risk being laid off.

The Verge obtained the recording, which reveals some of Musk's plans for updating Twitter, including secure communication. DMs would be encrypted, which means the text could only be read by participants, as is the case on platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram, and Signal.

And in the EV neck of the woods, based on a survey released this week by Denmark-based Saxo Bank Group  sustained inflation and rising energy costs have more than one-third of Americans considering trading in their gas-powered vehicle for an electric vehicle.

The survey of 2,000 adult Americans found that 36% are considering trading in their gas vehicles for electric models, with men (43%) more likely than women (31%). Respondents aged 35 to 44 (47%) and 25 to 34 (42%), respectively, were the most likely to consider switching from gas-powered cars to EVs, while Americans aged 65 or older (19%) were the least likely.

Respondents in the West (46%) and Midwest (43%) were more likely to switch to EVs than respondents in other regions.
