My weekend project for my Last Song.
A tribute to the Poems ans Lyrics of Leonard Cohen.

It seems my lyrics needs a little explanation.
In my head the connections are clear, but even my wife has not quite understood what I was getting at.

"Man with the Hat.., how he knows so much about the past, the present and the future"
"The Future".

It was the last song on "Natural Born Killers" and probably the moment
when I first noticed Leonard Cohen as a really cool artist. When we got married in the USA in 2010, we rented a Mustang
Convertible for our honeymoon and drove it through the desert. We were often greeted with Mickey and Malory. That was quite amusing.

"twenty years of boredom is just a blink of an eye"
"First we Take Manhtten"
- They sentenced me to 20 years of boredom

"the holy dove..."
"Hallelujah"
- "And I remember when I moved in you and the holy dove she was moving too and eery single breath we drew was Hallelujah"
this is obviously a very erotic allusion. In my imagination, the dove is now "pregnant" and must hatch the egg. She will raise it full of love.

"how many miracles ..."
"Waiting for the Miracle" First song on "Natural Born Killers"
- But i was waiting for the Miracle
- I've been waiting night and day

"His songs of hope are not like songs of people in danger..."
In connection with the Ukraine conflict, my father just told me how he sat in the air raid shelter bunker during Worl War II and sang together to drown out the sirens.
They were certainly not poetic songs, but they served to spread hope. Today, when he listens to the news about Russian War he remembers how scared he was by the sirens.

"especially now, on a Wednesday"
this has no relation to Cohen. My wife reported to me last Wednesday walking down the street. An ambulance came across the redlightning crossroads at high speed.
She was trying to warn a woman who was carelessly walking across the street with her cell phone to her ear.
Instead of thanking her she was insulted in what tone she was talking to her. In the context of the sentence: "would you rather die? On a Wednesday of all days?"

"Everybody knows..." song with this title.
Means that many people are not interested in this kind of lyrics. They are only concerned with the now.

"Lost for so long...rise like the phoenix from the ashes"
- 1996, Cohen was ordained as a monk until he returned in 2001 with "ten new songs"

"With wine and cigarettes..."
"Tower of Song"
- I was born with the gift of a golden voice
- he started smoking again at 80 finally live it up and stop worrying about the consequences shortening your life by much

"Without any choice he reaches our hearts"
"A singer must die"
- And all the ladies go moist and the judge has no choice

"..come to that hotel in New York.."
"Chelsea Hotel #2"
During a visit to New York we of course also visited the Chelsea Hotel. In the lobby hung some artworkds painting by Leonard Cohen.

"As he looked at her, she started to cry..."
During a concert in Las Vegas, a lady boarded the stage, fell at his feet and gave him a rose.
The security guards panicked, but he took the rose and just smiled charmingly.

"He is the keeper of truth..."
"A singer must die"
- "you keepers of truth, you guardians of beauty"
- "Your vision is right, my vision is wrong"

Other  lyrics are freely invented by me but inspired by him to create a framework for this song..
