Omena hits release no.30 and celebrates by brining in Twovi aka Vito Loperfido to the family.

Vito released his first track, “Giango” on Bosconi Records back in 2017 and followed up with “In Memory of Love”, on Chez Damier’s Inner Balance, a release that showcased his talent for blending classic house with a fresh approach.

Fast forward 2020 and we got a new release “Panama” ready. These tracks shows why Vito is leading the wave of musical talent coming from Italy and he’s not afraid of using inspiration from different sources. The opening track Panama is an ode to a jazzy KDJ breeze while Santiago is a clever number where the drums are especially tasty and a few latin vibes sprinkled on top.
Manchester producers Contours continues to turn music into gold with his take on Panama. It’s a deep and rich version with his signature percussions included. Track number four, Lima, brings memories back to the golden days of Nuphonic.

We started to compile ‘The Many’ compilation after June 2020, in the wake of horrific world events in May - the murder of George Floyd. 
Our idea was to find worthy things we can do for others. 
Realising that what happened to George and many others transpired in 2020. This has been persisting at the hands of authorities for so many decades and longer, Rodney King, Breonna Taylor, Stephen Lawrence, Mark Duggan. It’s disgusting.

We want to use our privilege and platform, the label, to do some good

As sunny days reappear and bright flashes of optimism reverberate around the globe, along comes London based producer Kempston Hardwick with a killer five track garage-house release on Lobster Theremin that is crying out to be played in the park over some beers. 

With a more UK-centred approach than his previous work on SITU Records, Kempston Hardwick has captured the ‘better days are coming’ energy and bottled it into four wicked cuts of subtle grooves and deep wobblers.

The early evening groove of ‘Mowbray Street’ bounces into the frame with its playful melodies and sunny aesthetic; bopping and swaying in the fading sunlight. The oxymoronic patterns of harsh and melodic clash on ‘Channel’ as day turns to night; jackin’ rhythms and repetitive pads that create a real sense of inner-groove. 

Big breaks and carnival flavour are the orders of the day on ‘Provoke Iddy’ as Kempston flexes his versatility, before arriving at ‘Have You Stopped It’ - a wobbling melter that takes the very best of contemporary bassline and blends it with the fun energy of the transatlantic Vancouver and Montreal crews for some proper euphoric screwface moments.

Wrapping things up is the electro-laced 2-step of ‘Apologies to 25’ - a cut of distorted garage beamed from disco robots on a not-so-distant galaxy. Kempston Hardwick’s Mowbray Street EP might be the artist's most complete work yet, and it couldn’t be arriving at a better moment.

Starting life off as a cassette label in 2012, @UKNOWYMusic has since expanded into the vinyl realm. Based in Munich, Germany, the imprint is also host to beat event nights in its hometown. The premise behind UKNOWY is simple. It's about following a passion. In this case it's a passion for music. Although they try to minimize boundaries concerning genres, they seem to have a penchant for hip hop style beats with a sprinkle of house music on top. Both genres, among others, are represented throughout the label's previous releases of which there are now close to twenty. Currently, they've only had two vinyl releases, both firmly rooted in house. One in 2015 from Peter Clamat and the second in 2016 from Nemoy, with the forthcoming release being their third pressed to wax. If keeping with the current pattern, it may very likely be their only vinyl release of 2017.

"Our Roots" EP is the third aforementioned 12" and it comes from Swiss producer @Delakeyz, who you may know better as his melodic, beat-producing alias @Melodiesinfonie. The three track release comes with two remixes as well. One from Manchester-based Contours and the other from Austrian Moony Me. Our premiere today is the A1 and original mix of the title track 'Our Roots'. Dropping an afro-latin percussion groove over a steady house rhythm, Delakeyz is clearly gunning for the dance floor. Adding moody chords and atmospheric strings, the producer can't stay away from his melodic roots as he keys in squelchy, jazzy sequences over top. The sultry vocals are the cherry on top of a track that has both a solid groove and seductive yet wistful air about it.

Brasilian DJ and producer Rafael Cancian delivers a veritable United Nations of diverse international disco flavor for his first outing on Razor-N-Tape. The A side delivers cheeky horns and gyrating synths with Ç'est La Douceur, followed by a flurry of string stabs and vocal fourishes with theI Italo-tinged Fascino Di Milano. 

On the flip we get a taste of Rafa’s native Brasilian boogie with the stomping Frágil, and the EP winds down with the sensual slow groover Besos Libres. This is a 4-tracker of serious heat representing all four romance languages…perfect for romancing, and dancing!

After his acclaimed debut EP « Cotonou » on Alma Negra’s record label, James Stewart comes back with his new EP « Atlantic River Drive » for Mawimbi Records, featuring two collaborations with Ghanaian kologo musician Ayuune Sule as well as two remixes from Simbad aka SMBD.

James Stewart met Ghanaian kologo musician Ayuune Sule, after booking several shows of kologo music star King Ayisoba in Lyon. Stewart was quick to witness the bluesy tone of Ayuune’s voice and his kindness as a musician, despite his impressive stature. Quite logically, Stewart invited Sule to record vocals on two of his ongoing demos at Bruno Patchworks’ recording studio (Voilaaa, Mr. President, Da Break), with the idea of making a rather unheard crossover between traditional kologo music and contemporary styles that would both appeal to Ghanaian crowds and a Western audience. Stewart then had a number of his arrangement ideas re-recorded by a talented cast of musicians, resulting in a brilliant mix of acoustic and electronic textures, sounding both vintage and modern.

Nodding to Eddie Palmieri’s landmark record “Harlem River Drive”, “Atlantic River Drive” is a stomping dancefloor track, drawing from the 6/8 feel of kologo music and the energy of contemporary club music. The track can be read as a tribute to the musical cross-pollinations between the African continent and its many diasporas, which Stewart has dedicated a long part of his life to, but also as a more intimate story about his life and family. All words were written by Stewart and then translated by Sule in his native Fra fra language from Northern Ghana.

“Where Are We Going?” is a two-part journey that reminds us that we should care about each other, about our communities while we don’t know what the future is made of. An important and much welcome message to navigate through these troubled, uncertain times. Referencing congolese N’dombolo tracks, the track has two parts and rich arrangements, with its first part going deep with syncopated clarinet hooks and playful percussion parts, and its second part moving to a four-on-the-floor pattern and an entrancing baritone saxophone solo.

The EP also features Worldwide FM and Brownswood maestro Simbad, who delivers two dancefloor-ready reworks of the track “Where Are We Going?” under his SMBD moniker, turning it into a spiritual, dubby journey, as well as an emotional house music track.
