Version Galore is a new label "hailing from somewhere deep in the underground in Russia." Their next release? This absolutely killer disco rework 12" from edit king Opolopo, which has been getting early support from the likes of DJ Harvey, Marcellus Pitman and Honey Dijon. We're very happy to be premiering the edit on the flip - 'American Promise' is a feverish dancefloor funk nugget and should find safe passage into many top selectors' record bags.

If Wolf Music's forty sixth record touched on the burgeoning talent of rising Portuguese star Pedro, this 2019 follow-up delves deep into the accomplished head that rests on those youthful shoulders.

We feature, 'Alef' which rolls around with a funked out bass and psychedelic strummings, married with crisp cymbals and polished piano playing. Pedro's dream inducing trip still takes its hold though, with distorted, panning, hallucinogenic vocal cries swelling across the airwaves.

Oakland native producer - E. Live first appeared on the imprints ‘Edition Two’ compilation to get people grooving with his boogie laden tune ‘Got Me Good’. Keeping all that funk but throwing up the BPM in a lo-fi house aesthetic, Finnish producer - Saine transforms it in to a tune ripe and ready for the later DJ sets.

Bike Thieves are back. On last year's celebrated "Laura EP", the Stockholm duo plunged into the sounds of classic garage and deep house. On "Catherina EP", Erik and Daniel move in a slightly different direction. An explosive blend of afro grooves, tribal vocals and deep kicks and basslines, "Catherina EP" lets the rhythmic frenzy of Fela Kuti encounter modern house music. The record also features @Saine, one of Finland’s finest underground producers.

On the title track of "Catherina EP", Bike Thieves offer a mysterious deep house burner which slowly builds up around punchy congas, sweeping pads and female chants. This is the true story of a fearless woman who climbed the mountains of Mali without any safety equipment.

Not a lot is know about the mysterious producer 'Internet Xacker'. What do we know? Originally from Kiev but now living in Berlin. One previous release called 'Therapy for Anxiety' that was a self released vinyl only and just 15 copies produced! We like his style.

One other thing we do know is, that this producer has been heavily influenced by the Nu Northern Disco scene and throughout this EP you'll be reminded of Todd Terje, Lindstrom and Prins Thomas. High praise this may be but the proof is in the listening.

Paper Recordings celebrates its 25th birthday in 2019 and its relationship with Norway stretches back almost as far.

In 1997 Those Norwegians' Kilpisjärvi EP (Rune Lindbaek, Torbjørn Brundtland of Röyksopp & Ole Mjøs) was released and helped blueprint the Nordic cosmic, left-field take on house, disco and Balearic that has gone on to conquer the world. Hell, we even made an award winning documentary about it; 'Northern Disco Lights'.
 
The label has helped break generations of Norwegian producers including Proviant Audio, De Fantastiske To, Diskobeistet, Vinny Villbass, Rave-enka and Bøka / Lakehouse as well as release music by legends like Ralph Myerz, Lindstrøm, Mental Overdrive and Erot.  

Now things have come full circle as Paper go back to Tromsø where everything and nothing has changed. It is still a town inside the arctic circle a long way from anywhere that allows its creativity to develop away from the media spotlight.  It is also still turning out amazing producers who have the potential to flip the game once again and go on to be the next Todd Terje or Lindstrøm.
