This song was originally written as an acoustic track with just piano and vocals, and has been through multiple levels of feedback to reach its current stage. I have tried to approach overcoming isolation and depression in a way that is generally relatable, and to build to an optimistic conclusion. It's in Db Major, which is the musical equivalent of someone putting on a happy face.

I Advise You Not To Touch Me

I do love it when your brain just locks into an idea and it feels effortless to create something.  

I also like it when MY brain does that, too!  And that's what happened with "Quibble"--the latest Interbay track to drop exclusively here on SoundCloud.    

At 114bpm, it grooves instead of sprints.  The palette of sound colors is limited to just a few and the grind of repetition is a feature on this track, not a bug.  There is progression and there is acceleration, as the energy level of the song does built throughout the tracks length.  

And the lyrics construct a narrative that is about storytelling techniques and escaping a seemingly inevitable fate--"the magic of quibbles."  That sure feels like a worthy topic to make an Interbay song about!  

Is there at least a little bit of Rufus Du Sol influence here?  I think so.  Your mileage may vary, of course.  

"Keep your eyes out for those sly quibbles."  

Heading into the weekend, this slightly dark but still worthy of an enthusiastic dance track feels perfectly timed.  Hopefully you'll give this one a listen, a like, a repost and share.  Add it to a groovy dance playlist.  Leave a comment.

Whether it was George Bernard Shaw or Oscar Wilde who said it (or said it first), there is a certain bittersweet truth in the sentiment that "Youth is wasted on the young."  

Constructed from bits and bobs and pots and pans, including a rather slik vocal that ure likely to appreciate if you are a certain age (of a fan of certain types of music,) today's Interbay track is an homage to a simpler time and a requiem for the opportunities that we weren't wise enough to appreciate when they made themselves available to us.  

It could be a threat to Icarus' good health, so thoughts and prayers...as always.

As an old, my mind can be trapped in the comforting blanket of nostalgia.  Too warm and cozy to leave behind in a world that is too cold and too isolating, the pull of memories of the past is strong when the present feels untethered.  I think "In Memory" is reflective of those feelings.

In case you're curious about whether or not my emotional state influences Interbay production, the most accurate answer is "it can."  This has been a rough couple of (days? weeks? months? years? decades?) and I'm not surprised to sense a darker turn in the tracks that I'm working on at the moment.  On the other hand, I've always written songs that are somewhat dark, either musically or lyrically, even when I was young, rockstar skinny, had crazy hair, and was happier than I am now.  I mean, here in Seattle at the moment, it is all sorts of gray and drizzly outside (it would be weird if it were gray and drizzly inside--I wouldn't be typing this, I'd be calling a plumber)...will THAT influence any work I do in the Labs today?  (Probably...but Seattle being gray and drizzly is not a unique thing, especially this time of year.)  

When confronting the theme and the lyrical content of this particular song, whether or not youth is wasted on the young isn't my issue, so much as "we only get one shot at this life."  I tend to think in "cause and effect" logic trains--so, if I'm unhappy now...I look back to see if I can rewind my memories to see WHY I'm unhappy and perhaps that knowledge can help me dig myself out.  

Too often, the best way to dig yourself out is to have never dug yourself in, in the first place.  Sometimes, that seems like the only way--which is kind of where my head is at the moment.

What would it have been like if I had made different choices?  I will have to imagine that, because we don't get any do-overs...no mulligans...no extra ball.  It now feels like I'm imagining a million billion decisions that I either wish I could see what would have happened had I chosen differently, or I can guess what could have happened to know exactly what choices I should have made, but didn't.  

...and that can be torture.  

Obviously, I don't want you to be tortured by listening to an Interbay track--and this one is full of all kinds of retro 80s new wave vibes.  I like the track a good deal.
