This gem can be found in Buntings Ancient Music of Ireland, and the "literal  translation from the original Irish" was undertaken by a Miss Mary Balfour, (there is a slightly different  translation in my 1897 book The Minstrelsy of Ireland). 
The original Irish song was believed to have been collected by an agent of Bunting's associates the McCrackens - a man called Patrick Lynch...who collected over 200 songs from singers around the Mayo area in the early 1800's but this man was never acknowledged in the publication. 
The original tune was believed to have been first published as "Ye Trugh" by Neal in 1724, but Bunting got it from Charles Byrne at a harpist's gathering around the 1790's.

One of my heroes has always been Johnny Cash and I wanted to include one of his songs on my cover album. I originally was going to record his version of Depeche Mode’s song “Personal Jesus”. After going through the amazing list of over 1500  songs that Johnny Cash wrote I came across this gem that he recorded in 1974. My immediate reaction was “BINGO” -  this is the song that does it for me. He was clearly a man ahead of his time. To date, he has sold over 90 million songs.
RIP Johnny Cash.

This classic song by fellow Montrealer, Leonard Cohen can mean many things to many people.
To me, Suzanne is a metaphor for his muse, his mysterious connection to his artistic and poetic consciousness. I’ve always loved this song from the moment I heard it so many years ago. The imagery is so haunting and indelible. Enjoy.

It’s hard to believe that this song written by Paul Simon in 1964 is over half a century old. Like a true work of art, it has withstood the test of time. An interesting anecdote Simon wrote this song in his bathroom where his guitar would have an “echo” effect.

Bio
In 2007 at age 63 Montrealer Peter Wheeler bought his first guitar. He then went to amazon.com and purchased a book called “How To Play The Guitar for Dummies”. Since then he hasn’t looked back. 

Sometimes serious - sometimes humorous Wheeler’s music seeks to re-capture the Classic Vibes  from the 70’s & 80’s. To best describe his music imagine Bob Dylan & The Doors meet The Clash & Leonard Cohen at the Hotel California & share a bottle of wine with Tarantino. Peter Wheeler is a poet - focusing all his energies into creating musical canvases to express his personal vision of the world surrounding him. 

For several years Peter was part of the local bar scene in the Greater Montreal area.  He performed as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist for The Rock Roulette Band. His experiences giving live performances and continually improving his guitar playing has truly shown that you can teach an old dog new tricks.
