From 1998 to 2019 Boo Boo Davis used to tour in Europe several times each year and a lot of music was written and recorded during these tours.  The worldwide Covid pandemic put that on hold . However with the help of the internet and mutual friend Chris Brown in St Louis, we started to exchange idea's and demo's with Boo Boo. The result of these 'sessions' is released as a string of single tracks and they are available on all the stream and download platforms.

Covid can stop live shows for a while but it can not stop the creation of new music.

François, 44 ans, architecte, s’exprime avec une voix aiguë qui n’a jamais mué. Il l’a longtemps accepté, sans chercher à comprendre sa particularité. Mais au printemps 2020, une rencontre avec un phoniatre le décide à entamer un travail orthophonique pour en changer. Aujourd’hui il s’adresse à ses deux voix, l’ancienne et la nouvelle.

Alice Milot et Charlie  Dupiot sont  journalistes pour RFI, France Culture et la RTS. En juin 2019, elles créent Post-scriptum, un podcast indépendant de lettres sonores qui donnent à entendre des dialogues impossibles.

In springtime I usually go to foreign destinations to record, but in 2020 and 2021 because of the restrictions due to Covid I stayed in my home country and recorded in locations a short motorbike ride away from where I live near Arklow County Wicklow (East coast of Ireland). It was probably feasible to travel but it seemed like a lot of hoops to jump through. Early in the season I tried the gravel pit and a sand dune area, both only a few kilometres away, these places are great for a walk but not so good for recording, so that left only Ballinvally woods and Rosahane graveyard. Ballinvally woods is only a pine plantation with some semi-natural areas around the edges, the area has one great advantage in that it is surrounded by low hills, somewhat further away to the east, not so many kilometres, is the M-11 motorway so I had to be careful not to go out recording if there is an easterly drift of air. This woods is down a small country road. Just opposite is another woods, nearly completely pine plantation called Sporting Lodge woods. At the lower entrance is a farmhouse, I have never seen any activity in or around it, in the garden are a few House Sparrows (Disc 3 track 9), these birds are hard to find in quiet places, the downside with houses is that they are usually noisy or there is a noisy dog outside eager to bark at you all morning at your least movement, then houses usually have other noisy aspects about them, motors and so on, so to get Sparrows with a clean background is difficult. The other place I found to record sparrows is Moorshill (Disc 3 track 8), but although there are no people or dog noises there was a Cow mooing loudly.
The other location I recorded in is called Rosahane Graveyard (Disc 2 track 5 & Disc 3 track 1), this is in the Wicklow hills and could be described as being in the middle of no-where. I don’t know why it was chosen to be a graveyard as there is no town or even a village nearby, it is not even off a big road, there is no church unless there used to be one on the site a long time ago. It is not very old and to judge by the gravestones it probably goes back to the eighteenth century. It is surrounded by some really big and well grown pines that are a different species to the plantation outside.
Equipment; A Sound Devices MixPre 3 and a Marantz PMD661 recorder. About half way through the season the Marantz became faulty so I replaced it with a Tascam Dr100-Mk3. Microphones, Mainly the Sennheiser MKH8020’s, then for the drop-rig I used the Rode NT4 and later in the season a pair of Rode NT2A’s. The first recording (The Sea) was made with the Rode full length gun-mic, the NTG-8. I mentioned a drop-rig, usually when I would arrive at the woods to record, while still nearly dark, I would set up the Marantz or Tascam with either a Rode NT4 or the Rode NT2A’s and leave it to record for two or maybe three hours while I went away to another part of the woods with the MixPre3 and 8020’s (on the end of 30 metres of cable) to get more recordings. Usually I got a lot of great material with the unattended recorder, usually the levels were right or nearly right, it was a pleasure to have that aspect of the mornings work a mystery till I got home and opened it on the computer.
I like evening choruses, they are very distinctly melancholy compared with the dawn or morning chorus, from a recording point of view they are harder to record as people are not in bed asleep as in the early morning.
Some figures . . . I made 259 recordings, that is about 67 hours of material, a full 54 Cds. Even in Peru I didn’t get this many recordings ! I had thought about making this a two disc production, but I found I would had to have left out some great material, so that is why I went for the third disc.

This week’s special Maison Dufrene Show is comprised entirely of one of my favorite kinds of music I like to call “Rusty Tunes.” This is that genre of singer-songwriter music from the late sixties and early seventies that walks the tightrope over a sea rock, folk, blues, and soul, dipping its foot wherever but staying aloft to remain something all its own. The Band, Neil Young, Fairport Convention and even Led Zeppelin all made some Rusty Tunes but tonight’s show is reserved for the folks making rust in the background.

Voila 35 ans que, depuis Arles, Phonurgia Nova défend la création sonore, édite les classiques de la radio d'art (Welles, Schaeffer, Thibaudeau,  Paranthoën, Farabet, Mortley), publie des ouvrages de pédagogie et forme de jeunes auteurs désireux de s’engager dans une relation créative avec le sonore. C’est dans la suite logique de cette démarche que s’est ouvert en 2007 le Département d’Art Sonore et la "Chambre d'écoute" du musée Réattu d’Arles. Leur ambition est de   faire reconnaître l'audio-graphie (et toutes les formes qui dérivent de l'enregistrement), comme un art, à l’égal de la sculpture ou la peinture. 
Avec obstination, Phonurgia Nova s'efforce d’offrir aux créateurs et professionnels du son des espaces à leur écoute et à leur (dé)mesure.
Chaque année des Prix Phonurgia Nova récompensent des créateurs qui explorent l'écoute comme moyen d'activer l'imaginaire.
Les productions finalistes sont départagées par un jury international délibérant en présence du public, selon un processus maintenant bien rodé.  Pendant des journées denses, il s'agit d'écouter,  de comparer, de discuter, puis d'élire des lauréats ! La prime va à l’éloquence sonore. On en trouve des exemples ici-même ainsi que sur www.sonosphere.org
Toujours dans une logique de transmission, nous basculons par étapes notre sonothèque sur la plateforme Soundcloud. Une démarche qui s’inscrit dans un projet plus vaste portant sur la numérisation progressive et la mise à disposition du public et des chercheurs de la totalité de nos archives audio et audio-visuelles.
