Gábor Kovács is a Budapest/Brussels based musician and visual artist, also an alumni artist of the Shape platform. Active in a number of projects, he works with a wide range of genres and sounds, although his main output is Új Bála. Új Bála merges noise, psychedelia and fringes of techno and summons the rhythmic skeletons of dance music to bring order to his backdrop of mangled synth noises. In the past couple of years Új Bála released on labels such as Plaque, Baba Vanga, Altered States Tapes, Czaszka Rec.,Lost Dogs Entertainment or Tanzprocesz, performed at festivals like Schiev(Bruxelles), Les Siestes Électroniques(Toulouse), Novas Frequencias(Rio de Janeiro), Rokolectiv(Bucharest), Tauron Nowa Muzyka (Katowice), Pohoda(Trencin), Next Festival(Bratislava), Uh Fest(Budapest) and played in clubs and DIY spaces all across Europe with his live act.

Ruminations is the third album by Puscha, written entirely through the lockdown period in Narrm/Melbourne during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. As such, this release was written during a time of forced isolation, where the days themselves became a continuous, recurrent experience. Ruminations is a manifestation of persistent thought loops and mental obsessions, as a thematic follow up from Puscha’s last album, Echolalia.

The recognition of Puscha’s ruminative thought patterns coincides with the concept of cycles, which has been a central source of inspiration of Puscha’s work so far. Cycles can be found in everything - from the ocean’s undulations to a beating heart, from an electronic oscillation to the cycle of life and death. Puscha’s music explores this by seeing how far they can push looping melodic and rhythmic phrases using poly meter and dynamics on a micro level. These pieces were improvised recordings with few takes and even fewer edits, in an attempt to break ruminative cycles.

Puscha is an experimental electronic artist and film composer from Naarm/Melbourne, Australia. With minimalist compositional approaches employed with hyperactivity, they create hypnotic, post-ambient auditory spaces and musical impressions that eschew background and dancefloor prosaic. Taking wide influence from 20th century classical to psychedelic, deep global music to ambient techno and beyond, their music explores psychoacoustic and acousmatic modalities with the aim of provoking catharsis and deeper listening.
