"Zapotec Death Poems is a Mexican project created by the union of music soundscapes by Concret and Sabino Guisu's arts & crafts. Originally born in Oaxaca, Mexico; the project seeks to expose elements of the ancient Zapotec culture and reinterpret them in a contemporary fashion. Concret and Sabino are freely inspired by the traditions of the Istmo de Tehuantepec and the Dia de los Muertos celebration to create new artistic achievements that project the culture of Oaxaca into a futuristic cyber dimension. Now they are working to finalize a serie of art installations by Sabino Guisu representing elements of the tombs of the valley of Mitla and a Concret Ep with Zapotec samples recovered from Oaxaca's music library and the singer's collaboration Natalia Clavier of Thievery Corporation."

Concret - Mayan Warrior - Burning Man 2018

@My-Favorite-Robot-Records storms into 2019 with a fantastic EP from new recruits @ConcretMusic & @Strapontin, with remixes from Zombies in Miami, Olsvanger, Mijo and Future Feelings.

Belgian producer, visual artist and performer Strapontin brings post punk, downtempo and dark disco vibes to his music. He has released on the likes of Optimo, Nein and I’m A Cliche and is also part of various collectives as well as being a busy soundtrack composer. His singular style is showcased here on two fantastic new tracks that find him link with Trafico label boss and rising production star, Concret.

‘Resilienza' is seven standout minutes of cinematic music that takes you on a real audio adventure. The mid-tempo drums are deep, and whispered vocals bring real intimacy while a rugged bassline and jumbled percussion makes you want to move. It is something that pairs darkness with melodic light and as such is a truly absorbing listen.

The next Trafico Music EP comes from Concret & TYU with Corrado, Luzius, Borusiade and Bellville on the remixes. The standout tracks come as a limited edition, 250-run vinyl pressing with a digital release a month later. Concret is Italo-Mexican musician and DJ Diego Angelico Escobar and sound-designer, keyboardist and producer Q-pha from Italy. Next to guesting on Red Light Radio and Rinse FM, Diego has played all over Europe and released on Her Majesty’s Ship and Akbal Music. They have an involving, mid-tempo techno sound that is always artful. Here they link with Tyu, a Mexican producer who releases on DURO and Calypso Records as well as Trafico. First up is the fantastic ‘Halo,’ a dystopian bit of robot-techno with stiff bass stabs and snaking synths. It’s evocative machine music with a real angsty edge. The opening remix comes from production whizz Corrado Bucci who is currently working with labels like Compost Records, Local Talk and BBE Recordings. He turns ‘Halo’ into an uplifting affair with dancing melodies and brightly lit synths that take you higher. Luzius is next, a Mexican producer who is part of the SsenSorial crew, and flips the track into a more stripped back bit of supple minimal techno.Concret & TYU then serve up the superb ‘Black, Blue, Yellow, Green’, a raw bit of deep but metallic house, with dark vocals and end-of-the-world chords that bring to mind a real sense of cinematic finality. Comeme’s revered Borusiade then builds on a discography that features one of last year’s best albums with a remix that reworks the drums into busy, punchy things as slippery synths slither over the top in rueful fashion. Closing things out is a remix from Bellville that reimagines the track as a zoned out piece of house music with sci-fi synth motifs and smooth drum work all getting you into a reverie.This is brilliantly futuristic music that brings new emotion and drama to the dance floor.

Just in case the weather’s not hot enough for you, Correspondant bring even more heat with the second instalment of their ‘Numéro’ series. A new unchartered galaxy for new and rising artists and friends of the label to explore and lay down their own rules, anything can – and will – happen.
Following the concept launch earlier this year, ‘Numéro 02’ instantly thrusts us out of orbit for another cosmic crusade from Belfast man-of-the-moment LOR. Triumphant synths on a rocket powered groove, it sets the tone as Israeli newcomer Niv Ast, who makes a swift return after remixing Fort Romeau, takes us even further into the universe with ‘Generally Alone’.

For the return ticket back to our over-heated home planet Italo duo Concret and friend Cantor take the controls. ‘Freaks’ is a chunky psychedelic blur through the stars with occasional asteroid washes of guitar while ‘Hardcode’ marches us back into reality with staccato savoir-faire.

The village was deafly silent, you could barely hear a pin drop or a murmured whisper echo through the streets. Nothing happened in this god forsaken place anymore. Many, if not all, had left for other climes or intrepid adventures. They'd abandoned everything, in search of something better. Those that remained were intent on making their move soon. They knew the next chapter would be greater than this one. But then again, the grass is always greener... 

Paris-based Motordiscs, conceived by the team behind late nightclub Garage, set a pretty high bar when they launched their label earlier this year with a four tracker VA featuring an all star cast of artists: Khidja, Zombies In Miami, Curses and Kasper Bjørke. Their second helping is no different. This time they've locked in contributions from Sascha Funke, Modular Project, Massimiliano Pagliara and our pick from Concret & Cantor, a heads down cut driven by synths, atmospheric guitar licks and squiggly acid lines.
