Detroit techno from one of the most unique techno producers around these days. From his first productions on Djax-up beats in 1995, his Transmat Classics, and recent appearances on Skudge and offcourse Indigo aera itself: over the years Stephen achieved his own unique and distinctive production style. Timeless music with capital T. Together with Stephen we careful selected three tracks from his always changing liveset. In this way, this release is a collection of tracks Stephen did over the last 5 years. There are three originals, from melodic machine soul techno to the more straight foreward dancefloor cut's. On the flip there's a remix from Rolando. As Stephen and Roland are good friends both living in Edinburgh, it was an easy choice to ask Rolando for a remix on this EP.

Just a year after starting and the irrepressible R-Zone series is up to release number 9. Again this time there is no real word on who is behind the music, but again it is fierce, searing techno for darkened dancefloors. 

The barrelling, stomping ‘Down You Go’ opens this EP with blocky metal beats, spares synth lines which bleed in and out of focus and plenty of rattling percussion. ‘Give Me More’ goes a little slower and deeper, with rubbery kick drums forming the base of the track as molten and melted acid gurgles percolate up through the mix. On the flipside, ‘Too Much TV’ is a more elastic groove that undulates up and down with short little acid stabs buried deep within as the bass drops in and out. Supple and propulsive, it’s arresting stuff that gets completed with final track ‘VHC Beats’.

Whichever producers are behind the R-Zone series always manages to come up with the goods, so if you like fizzing, textured techno that pulls no punches, this remains the series for you.

The much loved and mysterious R-Zone series rolls on here with another new EP, this time made up of three more moody and atmospheric cuts.

First track 'Visions Of A Deepweb' is a slow and predatory crawl through a barren cosmic landscape. Synths spiral around you and encase you in paranoia as heavy drums trudge out a groove below. The track grows ever more stormy and turbulent, never letting your attention wane. 'Xochisa Wakening' is a much more spacious and less intense affair with no drums, just dripping water; tons of reverb and groaning deep space ambient sounds that suggest you are in total free fall. Continuing with the intergalactic feel, the final track 'Positive Sequence' sounds like a voyage through space, with heavenly pads adding tons of beautiful atmosphere, gently ticking percussion driving things along and plenty of little sonic details all drifting by in the background. Various cinematic images play out in your mind throughout this EP, and that makes it all the more appealing as a result.

R-Zone 11 - Visions Of A Deepweb / Xochis Awakening / Positive Sequence

For their next trick, the anonymous R-Zone crew turn out three darkly engaging cuts that once again look back to a ravey heyday for their inspiration, but at the same time conjure up some refreshing contemporary ideas that will no doubt have dancefloors in raptures. 

EP opener 'Onefourone' is an epic end of the night track with big drums, melancholic chords and a sombre sense of finality that makes you think the world could end anytime. 'Gravity' sounds like an invasion from space, with falling synth lines, buried deep drums and clattering percussion all making for a foreboding atmosphere. 

'Stolen Birds' fills up the flip side with a groaning and darkwave synth line and cooing birdcalls. As big hi hats come in and glassy tinkles fill in the airwaves, it turns into a stormy affair that is both dancey and cerebral at the same time. As always with R-Zone, this is compelling, creative music that bristles and brims with all sorts of occult charm.

The much loved, slightly mysterious but always firing R-Zone series rolls on to its 12th release here. This time the Dutch collective serves up five searing club tracks that are as raw and energetic as ever and look back to a 90s UK heyday for their inspiration. 

First up is Beginning of Life, with old school loon bird calls, lots of rave intentions and nebulous pads all creating a sweaty atmosphere atop rough hewn drums. Hardcore Track is a frenzied cut with  pixelated melodies, chopped up vocals and machine gun like drums that pull in many directions at once. 321 then has classic [pitch shifted hardcore vocals, rinsing, dusty old break beats and cantering bass, then Red Rave #1 is all whacked out and tinny, with skeleton drums jostling next to vocal stabs and dark and ominous spoken word snippets and Red Rave #2 gets all jungle by going deep on some rolling, shuffling drums and rich, rubbery bass. For fans of old school, hardcore and rave this Ep will certainly make you smile and, of course, dance!

Keeping up the pressure with their anonymous EP series, R-Zone now offer up three more cuts of purely dance floor aligned action. 

Opener You Wear The Mask Of The Beast is a mysterious cut with a spooky lead synth, subtle, buried deep drums that are full of implicit energy and build to a heady peak. Raw textures, unfamiliar patterns and perfect back room vibes all pervade. Salt Volatile This Sucka is a slow mo but chugging track with frazzled synth lines, atmospheric pads and curious melodies all spiralling above lazy, ramshackle drums. Last but not least, Arrowhead is a sludgy, dirty, sleazy groove that sounds broken. It’s a fantastic fusion of fucked up machines sounds that keeps you on edge throughout. Once again here R-Zone have confounded all expectations with their left-of-centre electronica.

Roberto Clementi’s sparkling new EP spans a diversity of styles, all imprinted with his own unique sound. This relative newcomer to Soma has proved a great match for the iconic Glasgow label, producing consistently high-quality tracks. His innovation and vision are clear on this single, which is his second release through Soma.

The EP kicks off with Viper, which ignites the release from the first bar. The imposing bass hints at a darker sound and the thunderous synth creates a powerful sense of atmosphere. A dubby, industrial feel spreads through the track. These undertones are capitalised on with the electrifying break-downs and drops running through, all lifted with the brushed tones of the intricate drum patterns. This is a fantastic start to the EP and a track to get lost in. 

Retro Chords is the next track and takes a different direction with an endorphin drenched and upbeat sound. Ecstatic, bright synths and ethereal organs help to build a warm melodic structure to the track and conjure a pleasing sense of nostalgia within this retrospective. Elements of Balearic beats and heady, celebratory times are key to the sound of this stylish track.

Overrule adds another fresh perspective to the release. A staunch powerful rhythm drives this track from the outset and makes an immediate impression. The sounds melt into liquid synths and delicate space and this balance of fluid melody and bold rhythm make this an exciting track. 

Mesm completes this expansive album and extends the dub elements. The echoing refrains spiral off and merge with the sweeping backdrop panning and swirling harmoniously. The strong rhythm and melody line provide a powerful anchor to these intricate sounds and during the track energetic, pumping beats heat it up creating a raucous mix. As the track fades out it becomes sparser and darker and flows away intriguingly.   

This EP is the perfect expression of Clementi and showcases his talents as a producer, combining great skill with distinctive, fresh ideas to create a striking new sound, which, signals a bright and prolific future with Soma.

"We are brought down a notch in the middle of the EP, where we see more playful elements of synthesis come in on the sparse and spacious ‘Birthday’. Taking another notch down tempo-wise with ‘Fornia’ and ‘Ivory Heart’, AH takes us on a trip through the deepest caves of wonder. It’s probably not the best way to describe the music and dissect it, but these two tracks are like walking through underground caverns filled with natural treasures, glistening minerals and crystals. If that doesn’t make sense, and you’ve played Ocarina Of Time, think of the Great Fairy Fountains, just on a grander scale. A brilliant effort and an amazing release."

Seventeen years after it's first release, Delsin is soon to hit the landmark catalog number of 100. Truth is, taking into account choice re-issues and specials such as the recent house series, there have already been scores more than 100 releases. Nevertheless, in that time the Dutch label has become synonymous with a wide range of timeless sounds from house to techno to dub to electronica, nurturing and championing some of the most respect names in the scene.

To mark the occasion, the label is to release five new various artist EPs throughout the rest of the year. Besides a special collector's box edition, all EPs will be offered separately. All fifteen tracks will also be compiled onto one CD.

“After many different life cycles, with this compilation I try a bit to go back to the core of Delsin, to showcase more soulful but still raw techno sounds from a selection of key artists who best represent the label,” says label boss Marsel Delsin. “The tracks are all individual offerings but are tied together with the common themes of the label, and as a compilation will paint a nice overall picture.”

The five EPs will contain tracks from newbies and old favourites alike, including Sawlin and Delta Funktionen, John Beltran and Conforce, Redshape and Herva, Ross 154 and Mike Dehnert and more. The first – like all of them – features three tracks, one each from Gerry Read, Unbroken Dub and Claro Intelecto.

Its Manchester’s Claro Intelecto who goes first with 'Fighting The Blind Man', a typically widescreen and atmospheric cut with rich but grainy pads, warm techno pulses underneath and plenty of expertly design synths gurgling in the foreground.

New school house hero Gerry Read then offers a typically rough jam, 'Granny Bag'. A melange of sandy hits, smeared synths and hunched kick drums, it might be one of his deepest cuts yet before Siberian producer Unbroken Dub then layers warm pads on rolling, buried deep kick drums and has all sorts of analogue sci-fi lines racing across their face.

As has done Delsin itself over the years, this special series of releases looks to join the dots between the past, present and future of techno.

The sounds exhibited across each track are fresh offerings that combine brightly coloured synths, swirling pads and non-standard beats into captivating and kaleidoscopic soundscapes that constantly evolve from start to finish.
