People naturally follow, conform the majority, and this has allowed us to evolve and survive together as a species.  Throughout history it has also made groups of people vulnerable to totalitarian rule that tends to help the ruling class more than the people, when the people are complacent and don't realize their position until it is too late.  While there may be some parallels to governments in the world today, this song is inspired by this "cost of complacency" throughout history rather than any specific events today.

Wah-Wah Watusi

The synth and rhythm tracks are inspired by my love of The Who. Specifically Who Are You, Won't Get Fooled Again and Baba O'Riley. Once I started adding melodies it took on its own life. That's the cool thing about recording sometimes. The song goes where it wants to regardless of how hard I try. ;-)

Indomitable

A tribute to the late great Jeff Healey! I've always felt my blues playing was a weak spot even though I started playing many years ago by trying to imitate Stevie Ray Vaughan. A couple years ago I discovered a Jeff Healey album called "Live at Grossmans" and it made my jaw drop. The playing is just phenomenal. This recording is an attempt to reproduce a "live" feel with multiple guitar players. It was a fantastic learning experience that taught me it is much more difficult to imitate the subtleties of note bends, sustain, timing and attack. It definitely was a humbling learning experience. Hope you enjoy! ;-)

Put That Thing Back

Melodic instrumental rock music you don’t have to be a guitarist to appreciate.

Growing up in the 80’s, Rich bought a used $15 guitar after the death of his parents at age 17 and began to learn.

Faking Stevie Ray Vaughan on the cheap guitar, Rich literally played until his fingers bled. A year later with his first electric he was cutting his teeth on Van Halen’s Eruption and the shredders of Shrapnel Records. This led to his first band while earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Va Tech. After graduation, the shock of “real life” motivated a visit to Musicians Institute in LA with the hopes of attending but the cost and a younger brother to care for proved too much.

Returning to VA, Rich worked as an engineer by day and played at night. In 1987, Joe Satriani's “Surfing with the Alien” changed the landscape and motivated Rich to self record and release “Was It Good For You Too?” in 1991 and the eponymous CD for his band “Red Handed” in 1994.

After a 10 year break from playing in 1998 to marry and start a family, a Father’s Day gift to Rock Fantasy Camp in 2008 provided inspiration to play again.

Rich is back doing what he loves. Playing guitar, writing, and recording “songs without words” in the hopes of sharing guitar music you don’t have to be a guitarist to appreciate.
