hey, so i wanted to start sharing with you some insight into my writing process and how i work. this was recorded the day i wrote 'low' and this is the exact voice memo i sent to my label/manager for them to first hear the song.

i was in such a dark place when i wrote this, i was so adamant that my career was about to be over so (of course) i wrote a song that ended up being chosen to be released out of the hundreds i've written over the past 2 years. even though i wrote it just me + piano, you can hear in this that i knew what i wanted the production to be.. especially at the end when i'm bashing the life out of the piano, dying for it to be a big wall of synths.

i'm going to start uploading more of these soon i think.. i've always found it interesting how a song appears out of nowhere and then goes on a journey to become the final version of itself.

Low [Voice Memo 19/05/2014]

i wrote architects in the same room where i wrote broke, low,  and a few of the songs that have actually made the album. it's a tiny writing room with no windows in kings cross, only just big enough for the upright piano, mic, and chair inside.

i actually hated this room. the piano wasn't really in tune, and it felt a bit like a prison cell that was costing me £8 an hour to hire(that's probably why i haven't been back since i moved my own stage piano into my flat). however, i wrote some songs in there which have played a big part in my album journey.

this song was originally going to be on the album, but we couldn't quite get the production right and, to be honest, i've just written better songs since. i remember being so excited by it at the time.. and it's not that i hate it now.. it just kind of makes me think of that room and nothing else. weird how that happens.
