Going Home...

This is an afrobeat song that I came up with based on a beat I boosted from BandLab. They have all kinds of great beasts on there, btw. Anyway, I sent it halfway around the world to my friend Mikey McFaffington in Australia. he proceeded to summon his magical saxophone throughout the song, bringing it to life. We both had a lot of fun making this one, and appreciate you taking the time to read this. I'm playing bass, guitar, electric piano, and synth horns on this one.

Making the world perfect is to me a real paradox and conundrum.It bothers me when noble ideals are turned into self righteous accusatory rhetoric that becomes counterproductive to the goal of "world peace". How can we deal with real entrenched differences in culture that seem to conflict without war???

so let's keep it simple, it's a place where we can start

pain is pain and should be stopped
hunger is hunger and should be fed
cold is cold and should be clothed
thirst is thirst and lips should be wet

start with this and work our way down opinions crooked path
understand we won't agree on all that comes to pass
you cannot be intolerant of intolerance if you want to reach the end
for if you are intolerant to what seems intolerant to you
no matter how noble your pursuit
you just become another racist

I want to also explain about this song and us as artists. We have already made, and will continue to make songs in our genre of catchy pop, earthy folk and ethereal mystique. We are comfortable there, but we thought we would try something a little different, a little left field. This is arty and abstract, just for fun... but it was also kind of serious, inspired after having just finished reading Angela's Ashes.

Musically I wanted to experiment when played this tune on iPhone the other day. Wanted to invert what we usually play as a background and bring upfront. And the other way around pads and harmony to dominate. Just like how you perceive reality when falling a sleep or having Catnap break.
