Sound byte of snapping shrimp in the genera Alpheus and Synalpheus in Matlacha Pass in Southwest Florida, recorded by Rick Bartleson of the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation Marine Lab. Bartleson and other Marine Lab members have been collaborating with students and faculty at Florida Gulf Coast University to study sound as an indicator of ecosystem health in the Caloosahatchee River watershed — both in response to stressors like low oxygen conditions and before and after restoration and management efforts.
