Derek Beres is a multi-faceted author, speaker, and podcaster based in Portland, Oregon. He has served in senior editorial positions at a number of tech companies and has years of experience in health, science, and music writing. He regularly speaks on science and media literacy. Derek is the co-host of the Conspirituality podcast.

Alongside David ‘Duke Mushroom’ Schommer, Derek is one-half of EarthRise SoundSystem, which has released three albums and four EPs. Derek has produced records for Six Degrees Records and Vieux Farka Toure. He toured internationally with GlobeSonic and was a regular guest at the legendary Turntables on the Hudson parties and resident DJ of Kollektiv with Karsh Kale. He has performed alongside Jamiroquai, Ojos De Brujo, Sidestepper, Brazilian Girls, Yerba Buena, Antibalas, Cheb i Sabbah, and more. He served as music supervisor for the breakthrough documentary, DMT: The Spirit Molecule, and is the co-host of the podcast, Conspirituality. He (somewhat) regularly posts mixes on his Soundcloud page and on Spotify.

Guided Meditation Treks was started by Russell Eric Dobda (writer, musician, founder of Austin Silent Disco; software engineer; B.S. in Information Science, Psychology/Chemistry related fields, University of Pittsburgh). The project's intention is to utilize spoken word and sound healing technologies to help us achieve our greatest good for our higher selves and thus, the world. With wireless headphones, listeners are guided through creative visual and mental journeys to fulfill their intentions on the physical plane while uncovering mysteries within themselves. Programs include: Meet Your Spirit Guide, Manifestation, Reprogram a Counterproductive Thought Pattern, Help Another By Thought, Ask Your Higher Self a Question, and Program a Quartz Crystal. GMT has been featured at the 2013 international conference on New Interfaces for Musical Expression, as well as music festivals and events in Texas since 2012.

The treks have evolved to incorporate ambient music and each meditation is written and produced with a specific intention, and the team of vision contributors is continually growing as we write each new composition.

Science is showing that meditation and mindfulness really work. For example, we now know that meditation not only lowers stress and improves mental sharpness but it also strengthens our immune system, gives us more youthful and healthy brain tissue, and can be as good or better than prescription drugs for treating mental illnesses like depression, addiction, and autism. So maybe there is something to what all those ancient masters were talking about. Turns out when you strip away the religious and institutional covers, they figured out how to feel happy, healthy and fulfilled and told us how to do it. This podcast breaks it down in contemporary language so that we can all benefit from the profound insights into the human condition provided to us by the likes of Buddha, Jesus, Lao Tzu and so many others.
