Zaterdag 13 januari was ik te gast bij Justin Verkijk in hét elektronische muziekprogramma van 3FM, The Beat. Speciaal hiervoor heb ik een mix gemaakt. Inanimate intention

This year, on #InternationalDawnChorusDay, I took to the banks of River Lea, East London, to stream the sounds of dawn. I have visited this place since 2017 and have streamed dawn soundscapes since 2020 as part of @sound_camp #Soundtent #Reveil. After my broadcast is finished, I take my shakuhachi out and try to play some earth jazz.

This is one of the places closest to my heart - it is a really magical place where life comes into full spring in these early Spring days. To have visited this place regularly and tuned into the critters and more-than-human residents and neighbours is a privilege and real joy.

This is a short extract from an improvisation for shakuhachi and the River Lea.

A glorious summer harvest finds Mango Alley returning to golden fields. Another collection of "Summer Chillout" builds on a rich musical heritage of brilliant ambience. Melancholy washes over in a stream of perpetual music. Slate grey skies provide their own foreboding narrative to wash away serenity in a storm that resonates thunderous low-end frequencies rumbling across the horizon.

The long-shadowed sun casts its glow over the capricious dance of butterflies on warm air; a never-ending summer on Mango Alley creates another moment of sonic brilliance.

As the seasons come full circle once more, Mango Alley introduces its annual "Summer Chillout Compilation". Combining artists from a creative global fraternity, reverberated piano arpeggios stretch into the distance across open roads and undulating hills; atmospheric sounds and ambient effects ripple across empty beaches whose patterned sand swirls to create intricate patterns. Hypnotic rhythmic interplay mirrors the rumbling soundscape of distant trains rolling ever-onwards across magical landscapes.

The arc of light across the landscape transcends our perception of reality, lighting up hilltops and dense forest fauna in golden stratified layers of light. An infinite array of sounds transforms the sonic soundscape with pure emotion.

Our hearts beat together in long warm evenings, childhood reveries set reality adrift for a brief moment as we remember this day. Fragments of deep blue blend into the night sky; breathe in the cool mountain air; the balance changes the world as we know it, but we're okay.
