Markovites were renowned as the most restrained and cold-blooded warriors of the White Movement. The colors of their uniforms were black and white. Black color denoted mourning for the lost Russia, and white - the hope for its resurrection. They used a black flag with a white St. Andrew's Cross as their battle flag. The song mentions the following events from the history of the so-called Ice Campaign of the Volunteer Army: The battle for the village of Novodmitrievskaya (March 28-29, 1918), when only a thousand White Guards under the command of Markov in a snowstorm, crossing the river in a ford, captured the village, defended by three thousand red detachment.  The battle near Medvedovskaya village (April 2-3, 1918) - then the same thousand Whites defeated four thousand Bolshevik detachment supported by three armored trains, two of them were captured. 
In both battles, General Markov personally led the attack of his soldiers, showing not only bravery, but also leadership talent and resourcefulness.

We warmed ourselves with a cold bayonet!

Марковцы пользовались славой самых сдержанных и хладнокровных воинов Белого Движения. Цветами их обмундирования были чёрный и белый. Чёрный цвет обозначал траур по погибшей России, а белый — надежду на её воскрешение. В качестве боевого знамени ими использовался чёрный флаг с белым Андреевским крестом. В песне упоминаются следующие события из истории так называемого Ледяного похода Добровольческой армии:
Бой за станицу Новодмитриевскую (28—29  марта 1918), когда тысяча белогвардейцев под командованием Маркова в метель, переправившись через реку вброд, захватила станицу, обороняемую трёхтысячным красным отрядом. Бой под станицей Медведовской (2—3 апреля 1918) — тогда та же тысяча белых разгромила четырёхтысячный большевистский отряд, поддерживаемый тремя бронепоездами, при этом два из них были захвачены. 
В обоих боях генерал Марков лично возглавлял атаку своих солдат, проявив не только храбрость, но и полководческий талант и находчивость.
