DJ Shadow, widely acknowledged as a crucial figure in the development of experimental, instrumental hip-hop, has returned with ‘The Mountain Will Fall’ via Mass Appeal Records [and Believe Digital in France], his first full length release since 2011. The 12-track album finds DJ Shadow exploring new realms in addition to the deep samples and kinetic soundscapes that helped to launch his career 20 years ago. On ‘The Mountain Will Fall’ he’s shifted further toward original composition, a vast experimentation of beats and textures, synthesizers and live instruments including horns and woodwinds. The album features Run The Jewels, Nils Frahm, Matthew Halsall, Ernie Fresh and more.

Over the years I've recorded many sounds in different locations around the world. This collection of recordings aims to highlight the unique 'voices of a place'.

Africa has a very special unique sound, rich and resplendent, full of personality and variation. We had filmed through the morning at a small hospital in Western Province, and taking a break in the midday heat, I wandered the short distance to the main road and recorded the sounds of the market stall holders, the people running the varied kiosks, the sound of people walking past me in conversation and joking and laughing, the mother berating the child, the sound of motor cars and motor bikes, the blaring radios. Wonderful.
