Quintessentials has a long history in putting out those nice little (or sometimes big…) compilations. It was “deep, raw and real”. Then “thank you freaks”. After that “gentlemen cuts”. Now it’s “enjoy your cuppa”! Vol. 1 starts with 4 new and refreshing faces on Quintessentials. Marc Bianco is for sure no newcomer, as he’s a part of the famous Moonrise Hill Material crew with Folamour and other top french producers. “Wet Scott” is a smooth yet freaky tune with tight beats in a best MB manner. 
For german Effgee, “feels like ding” is his first track ever released. Happy lad! And we’re sure it won’t be the last. Italian air man Wearing Shoes is quite new to the scene, but has a quite impressive list of releases already. For Quintessentials, he teams up with…well yeah, Javonntte (check his two Quintessentials releases, 59 and 61). Proper house music guaranteed! Last but not least, Roy Vision (another french artist who just released on Roots for Bloom) goes deep and dusty, with lovely Rhodes and snares! We hope you enjoy your cuppa!

If Wolf Music's forty sixth record touched on the burgeoning talent of rising Portuguese star Pedro, this 2019 follow-up delves deep into the accomplished head that rests on those youthful shoulders.

We feature, 'Alef' which rolls around with a funked out bass and psychedelic strummings, married with crisp cymbals and polished piano playing. Pedro's dream inducing trip still takes its hold though, with distorted, panning, hallucinogenic vocal cries swelling across the airwaves.

Bike Thieves are back. On last year's celebrated "Laura EP", the Stockholm duo plunged into the sounds of classic garage and deep house. On "Catherina EP", Erik and Daniel move in a slightly different direction. An explosive blend of afro grooves, tribal vocals and deep kicks and basslines, "Catherina EP" lets the rhythmic frenzy of Fela Kuti encounter modern house music. The record also features @Saine, one of Finland’s finest underground producers.

On the title track of "Catherina EP", Bike Thieves offer a mysterious deep house burner which slowly builds up around punchy congas, sweeping pads and female chants. This is the true story of a fearless woman who climbed the mountains of Mali without any safety equipment.

Not a lot is know about the mysterious producer 'Internet Xacker'. What do we know? Originally from Kiev but now living in Berlin. One previous release called 'Therapy for Anxiety' that was a self released vinyl only and just 15 copies produced! We like his style.

One other thing we do know is, that this producer has been heavily influenced by the Nu Northern Disco scene and throughout this EP you'll be reminded of Todd Terje, Lindstrom and Prins Thomas. High praise this may be but the proof is in the listening.

SB PREMIERE: Internet Xacker - Disco Voyage [Citizens of Vice]

OK this track is unreal. I mean, we're Letherette fanboys anyway but when we found out that they had done some extended edits from their sublime Mander House LP last year, buttocks were clenched in excitement over which ones they had chosen. They did not disappoint with their choices, but what was the unexpected cherry on top was a new song from the archives that was previously unheard, with an added bonus of a 'Live' version of it. So here we are with said Live version, and its been on solid repeat since we got it. Stripping down the original version down to it's core. They've doubled down on the tribal disco drums, pulled out the live bass guitar and locked in one bad MF groove. The vocal sample is pure heads down, hands up joy and we haven't even got to the cowbell jam in the last third of the track! Can you tell we like this one?

The music of Genius of Time has always been defined by a certain elegance and grace. Finding new ways into and out of the labyrinth that some people call (deep) house, one the Swedish duo’s inner strength is the uncanny ability to create tension, sustaining and playing with it, before rewarding the listener (or dancer) with a fulminating mirror ball. Same goes for their treatment of percussive elements. 
„Peace Bird“, the opener of GOT’s EP of the same name, is a prime-example of that technique: a tight build-up and an intricate breakdown lead to heavily strings and foolproof floor finesse. Coming along with „Smiling Into Eternity“ that mellows you down easy as well as the club ready  „Rymd01“, the whole thing is a more than worthy successor to GOT’s first EP for Running Back almost five years ago. Niceness unlimited. Nerd facts: most of the elements of these three tracks here were recorded live and then mixed down on a reel to reel. No safety net, no double bottom!  Genius of time and genius of love.

Producers from Columbia and Holland provide the deeper edge with fast-rising producer Felipe Gordon making his label debut after huge releases on labels including Toy Tonics & Quintessentials with the smooth keys and unrestricted arrangement of 'Rio'.

Homegrown Moment Cinetique producer Freudenthaler who provides a lush, deep, jazz-ladened track in 'Bel Air', joins Felipe on the deeper side.

Two UK producers provide a more Disco heavy inclusion with Edit-hero and Monologues Records' G. Markus delivering 'Cherchez Le G' a driving track highlighted with irresistible female vocals.

Plus Moment Cinetique welcomes it's first producer from it's hometown of Sheffield in Reece Johnson. The infectious Acid-Disco of 'Montreux' carries on from his huge success in 2018 when his track 'Neyt Life' on Lumberjacks in Hell was supported by some of the biggest names in House.

Omena travels south of the Mediterranean Sea with antique maps and compass in hand for the release of Parviz's Zerzura EP. This record features four songs of romance and reverie, taking you through a dizzying jazz journey, full of twists and turns; starting with emboldened trumpets, only to end on a handful of quaint piano notes. As dusk settles upon the dunes, the mirage has now vanished, and the forlorn hope turns into a soul-searching journey.

To capture the atmosphere of the piece, Parviz has partnered with artist Rickard Eklund to put together the cover art for the release. Much like Parvis himself, Mr. Eklund was inspired a great deal by the mysticism of the region, which he goes onto explain in our exclusive interview where both delve into the influences behind their collaboration.

As you read through their discussion that touches on everything from Percey Shelley's Ozymandias to the music of Lounge Lizards, Yuseef Lateef and Duke Ellington, make sure to listen to Parivz's forthcoming track taken from the EP titled "Odalisque Au Fauteuil Noir." It will certainly set the mood and get you into the mindset of partaking in a little discovery and introspection yourself.
