FAWM 2018

This is a (FAWM) experiment....welcome to my noisy hot synth mess. This was recorded over the course of a couple hours on a 4-track that I forgot to switch the noise reduction switch on. Can't be bothered to re-record at the moment, but maybe I will someday. I made this using some old Japanese toy synths I have lying around (Yamaha/Casio). I never sing in Japanese, as you can probably tell, but since my audience is mostly Japanese or Japanese-speakers I tried my best here to experiment with blending in Japanese and writing lyrics that were simple enough for my abilities, but still meaningful.

Feminist J-Idol

2nd solo track for FAWM, only used 2 of my 4 tracks on the cassette, so might add some stuff on here later. I've been super busy with work and my neighbor has been really stressing me out all of a sudden, saying she's going to call the cops on me for playing music at 4 or 5 pm super quietly, but from her commentary seems like it's more about me being a foreigner and having foreign friends over once in a blue moon for dinner or chilling. Soooo trying to avoid drama and just kind of wanted to make something kind of chilled out and dreamy. I made some basic loops with my Yamaha Portasound (PSS-390) on my RC-202 and then just played around with the effects on them and did one take that I was semi-happy with.

Basic Witch

We wrote this song for Tota Kaneko who passed away a couple of days ago, and was one of the greatest modern haiku poets. Also, he's from Ogawamachi, the place where we used to live, and lived in Chichibu, a place we love full of majestic nature. He was vocal against the Abe government and many protestors used his calligraphy on their protest signs. We loosely translated one of his haikus as "Wake up there might be a war, so wander in the flower fields." We wrote this as a song for FAWM.

I recorded this on two tracks of a 4-track for FAWM, and never really got a chance to finish it to my liking, but oh well. Last chance to FAWM this year!  Can always come back to it in the future.
