jmoy ( @j_moy ) is the musical alias of artist and designer Justin Moy. Influenced by his background in architecture, the Amsterdam-based producer draws analogies between spatial design and musical composition, seeking to tell imaginary spatial narratives through sound.

The music resulting from this is a sonic journey traveling through a sequence of spaces, transitioning between interiors, exteriors, and the thresholds between them.

The first culmination of these sonic and spatial explorations is "Udys," jmoy's debut EP. "Udys" consists of four tracks, each envisioned as a narrative journey through and imaginary world. Atmospheric and rhythmic elements found within field recordings from his environments lay the foundation for each track.

Following on from J-Shadow and Hypna’s A2I, Plasma Sources offers up Familiar Rift, the debut EP from NIQH (pronounced ‘NEE-KEEH’). Weaving together grains of garage, ambient and club, the release places a heavy emphasis on sound design like its predecessor to create an immersive world-building experience. 

The EP is a sharp juxtaposition to the label debut - where A2I was dark and heavy, Familiar Rift feels light and skittering. What links these two releases together is an emphasis on sci-fi, world building and high-fideilty, laser sharp sonics. Through these shared aesthetics, Plasma Sources intends to fully cement itself as an imprint which will not simply be tied to one sound or genre. 

NIQH’s process is determined by chaotic serendipity - Familiar Rift was fashioned into shape from a colliding together of captured sounds and experiences, before being assembled into new, mutated forms. Heavily inspired by the work of Moebius and the visual style present in Aeon Flux and many 80s/90s anime, the body of work here represents a dynamic, ever-shifting environment of sonic contortion. 

Despite the chaos at play, the release still feels focused to NIQH. “I finally feel like I’ve got to a point with my music making where ideas feel aligned, concentrated, focused, in a way they didn’t before. Each of the tracks here fuses the chaotic serendipity I love with the notion of keeping the core musical ideas and patterns simple. I’m trying to marry these two pretty disparate notions into a concentrated, highly detailed style of music-making which feels more like a flowing environment than a series of musical actions.”

@WARECOLLECTIVE is one of our favorite experimental music labels. For us, it represents one of the most innovative and forward-thinking club music on SoundCloud. We tried to connect with the label in the past but were somehow unsuccessful. 

Now it has changed. With the new EP by WARE's founder @KLAHRK on another brilliant British label @all-centre-504822953, we give you an interview with the label boss, talented producer and DJ. 

On the "Z2" EP, the London-based artist delivers four atmospheric slow-fast club cuts, exploring the lowest depths of the sonic frequency spectrum.

After 5 standout releases, including debuts from many fresh faces to the left-of-field underground scene, Plasma Sources presents its inaugural compilation: Multi-Source. It brings together the current label family and a slew of other artists operating on the cutting- edge of dance floor electronics for a multi-genre, sound design heavy, wild ride. In turn, the label takes aim at establishing itself as one of the most exciting imprints in the experimental club scene.
From the 90BPM cinematic, Lorn-esque sludge of newcomer Guide’s ‘Gemological’ to the crisp staccato transients and negative space of Ziyiz’s ‘Plastic Sentiments’, each track adheres to one of the guiding principles that the label has employed so effectively to curate it’s platform, irrespective of tempo: a love for sci-fi aesthetics and a desire to transpose these into sonic equivalents.

Plasma Sources has always prided itself on delicately balancing dark and light, release to release. On Multi-Source, this broad spectrum is in full vision. Reinartz offers up dubbed- out, IDM-esque desolation on ‘Action Bias’, whilst Stolen Velour’s ‘Suigetsu’ brings a bright playfulness - high-pitched vocal cuts marry pulsating, organic beats which sound like if Untold’s Hemlock output got a 2024 facelift. Some tracks, like Prior Self’s brooding yet fidgety ‘Turn Out’ and Klahrk & Atrice’s flange-fuelled ‘You’ve Changed’ occupy the centre of this continuum with their takes on high-tempo techno-influenced mutations.

The full label family comes back to join in on the fun. HYPNA and NIQH team up on a collaboration which perfectly unites their sounds under a 4-bar bass-heavy roller laden with noise. NIQH offers up their own track, exploring crystalline club structures on ‘Pressure’. unearth’s cinematic, wasteland-ridden sound is in clear focus on ‘Safe Tread’ and Beton Brut’s signature grime-concrète comes through loud and clear on ‘WWW’.

Cortical offer up ‘Hammer’, a continuation of their relentless avant-techno manifesto established by their debut, whilst J-Shadow rounds things off with a space-age jungle- exploration on ‘X-38'.
The juxtaposition of dark and light. The delicate balancing of experimentalism and dance floor sensibilities. The interweaving of sci-fi and biologically-infused sound design. These are the key aesthetics with which Plasma Sources has approached its output ever since release no.1.
Multi-Source acts as a confirmation of this manifesto as it looks forward to 2025 and its future as a key player in the experimental club scene.
