Circling the Drain

A verse-melody that came in a dream, complete with the vocal harmony. These dream songs are fantastic catalysts for new tunes but the challenging part is always to come up with the lyrics, intro, chorus, bridge, etc to go along well with the melody. This is about spending all of our love as a currency that we can't take with us.

Due to its lineup, "Panta Rei Express" is an odd one out in my repertoire. I play 12-string acoustic guitar (which I really can't play) combined with a looper. On top of that, you hear a digital voice 'singing' texts from a technical manual.

The voice was created using the SimpleSong text-to-speech program (1998) which ran on Mac OS 8.

"Panta Rei Express" is track number 4 from the album "ZenSnack" released in 2003, self-published on CD. Track remastered in 2024.

The idea for this song came while we rode through southern France from Paris to Barcelona.  The countryside seemed so familiar and comfortable, as if it were calling to me to come home.

Was baptized by The Beatles at age 7, and since then have continually strived to create music as magical and meaningful as they did...

Started teaching myself rhythm guitar, by ear, in 1964 at age 13.  Played sporadically in teenage garage bands from '64-'71.  Life took over and I pretty much stopped playing for about 40 years, until 2015.  Started again to "prepare" for retirement - bought more guitars, a keyboard, a drum machine, home recording setup, etc. and playing some lead guitar.

All vocals, instruments and drum fills on my covers and originals are mine, but not basic drum tracks.  I'm learning as I go...recording/mixing techniques, guitar techniques, how to play keyboards/bass guitar/mandolin, etc.  This is all just a fun therapy trip for me to pretend "what might have been" and share stuff that, maybe, others might enjoy.

Slava Ukraïni to listeners in Ukraine.

Music has always been a fundamental part of my life, even if not always at the immediate forefront of my activities. I've studied classical guitar, and had some keyboard lessons early in life, unfortunately from an uninspiring teacher. I disappointed my guitar instructor when I bought my first electric guitar. In the late 70s through the 80s I played with friends in various bands with varying levels of ability and seriousness. During the 90s and into the 2000s I focused my life on other things. Then, beginning about 2015, I began building up a home studio, trying to renew my ability to play multiple instruments, and working on writing and recording my own music as a creative outlet. I've always enjoyed writing, and want to become better at integrating music and words to express thoughts, ideas, and emotions in a way that others might appreciate. Good music has the power to move people, to communicate at a deeper level than words alone. I hope I can create some music that others might consider good! Also, It's just damn fun to rock out and create new things. I plan to work up a coherent set of tunes to play live and record for the world to hear, or at least a few people! 

I ignore fake and fawning messages about my uploads and offers to promote my music. If you're not real and honest, I have no time for you.

All guitars, mandolin, bass, drums and percussion performed by Bob Beucler.  No samples or loops; all instruments recorded in real time, creating each song instrument-by-instrument.  My primary instrument is drums.  I strive to make my guitar music as interesting as I can.
