Entitled "Afetos" (Affections), this electroacoustic piece aims to extract musical poetry from everyday sounds related to the activity of cooking, which in itself is an activity of great affection, especially when it's from mother to child, and in fact the person who is cooking at the time of the recording is my mother. That's why I add extracts from a composition of mine called "Manhã" (Morning), which is a song whose extract played in the piece says "é de manhã maínha" (it's morning maínha). The term "maínha" is an affective way of saying the word mother. This piece is a way of showing the audience the musical possibilities that exist in everyday sounds.

"Twisted Seraphim" (2022) is an electroacoustic composition that was composed in completion of a Sound Recording Technology course at DePaul University (Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A.). This piece features the digital manipulation of environmental, percussion, and vocal samples provided by DePaul University. This work was composed and produced using Digital Performer and ProTools.

"Twisted Seraphim" (2022)

For voice, electric guitar & electronics.

'Syncope' is inspired by my experience of fainting and the vivid dreams that occurred whilst unconscious. 

Beginning with a soundscape that establishes the listener in the everyday world, the piece quickly transforms through a series of live loops. Live electronics and pre-recorded samples shape the sound, reflecting the physical effects of a syncopal episode on the body. 

The voice, an instrument intrinsic to all beings, symbolises human consciousness, whilst the guitar represents the unknown, transient nature of dreams and the subconscious mind.

Written for piano, tape and electronics, 'A Glass House,' takes inspiration from the portraits of pioneering 19th-century photographer, Julia Margaret Cameron (1815-1879). Similarly to Cameron's photography, each movement is infused with allegory and homage to other artists, weaving a narrative between her images that captures a vignette of bygone eras and celestial realms. Like the smudges, streaks and swirls that blur the edges of her portraits, reverb and echo enrich the timbre of the piano. Mirroring the etchings present in some works, antiquated samples and 'found sounds' intertwine to create a soundscape from which the piano emerges, evoking a sense of nostalgia and historical resonance.

Somethin’ Else is a weekly radio show in the Bellingen shire of mid North Coast NSW, Australia, delving deep into music forms that exists on the outer edge, taking the listener on a journey into who, why and how of music creation…touching on avant-garde, experimental expression, free jazz, weird folk, post punk, psych, minimalism and much more. At times focusing on an artist, micro-scene, labels or specific genre, Tune in and have your ears and mind challenged!

Presenter Mark Morris has spent many years before moving to Australia, working in the music industry, from his early days at Ray’s Jazz Shop in Soho, London, independent record labels, culminating in the curation of his own record label Bo’ Weavil Recordings. A labour of love, Bo’ Weavil catalogued free jazz, noise, drone and folk from contemporary musicians while reissuing long out of print gems from across the globe. Mark brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to his weekly broadcasts.

Collin Wittlich is an arranger, composer, freelancing stage/technical assistant, music educator, orchestrator, percussionist, podcaster, and sound engineer. Wittlich graduated from DePaul University with a B.M. in Composition and Sound Recording Technology and a Minor in Electronics. Collin looks forward to moving to New York City, New York, to pursue a M.M.  in Music Theory and Composition with a concentration in Screen Scoring at New York University.

A composer, interpreter and improvisor of no-input electroacoustic music based in North Wales.
He is currently undertaking a PhD in music composition at the Academy of Creative and Performing Arts - Leiden University, whilst contemporaneously working on various sound, dance and extended photography/cinema projects.
His work has been published by Entr'acte, Dinzu Artefacts, Subcontinental Records, Korobushka Records, The Silent Howl & scatterArchive
