A big thank you to Jo Richter @sonic-textures for offering up this inspiring open collaboration poem! His recording, also quite strange and experimental, can be found here:

The rhythmic background in my track was created by taking Jo's recording and chopping it up into fragments, then running it through a sample arpeggiator using an app called Samplr. Jo's recording is also used in the backward tape effect at the beginning and end, also created with Samplr. 

To further experiment with tape manipulation effects I did my own reading of the poem, then snipped the vocals into fragments and pitch-shifted them, this time using the Abu Dhabi dynamic loop slicer in Korg Gadget. Of course I also layered on some synth and keys (arturia microfreak, minilogue xd). Quite a different approach for me on this one, but it all came together surprisingly quickly considering the relative complexity. I hope to experiment with similar techniques going forward, I'm finding it fun to work with poetry and spoken word, so am definitely open to more collaborations that go in this direction!

The human stood up and saw the horizon, a need for discovery and to see who could harm him...
Time passed and then one day appeared the big vertical cities which erased for millions of humans its horizon.
On September 11, the greatest verticals collapsed and the world changed, from lies to lies, the horizon did not return and it was even seriously darkened!
Will we see the dawn sun again, on a new day? hope...

L'humain s'est levé et a vu l'horizon, un besoin de découverte et de voir qui pourrait lui faire du mal...
Le temps a passé et puis un jour sont apparues les grandes villes verticales qui ont effacé pour des millions d'humains son horizon.
Le 11 septembre, les plus grandes verticales se sont effondrées et le monde a changé, de mensonges en mensonges, l'horizon n'est pas revenu et il s'est même sérieusement assombri !
Reverrons-nous le soleil de l'aube, un nouveau jour ? espoir...

This is a song Chris wrote and asked me to play on. I love the lyrics and how they match the vibe of the song perfectly. He's playing guitar and bass, and I'm on the piano, slide, and organ. He told me it's supposed to be a whisper beneath the giant's bed as they tiptoe around under him, and that I should leave space for his breaths. My recent tunes are produced using Ableton Live, FabFilter suite plugins, and often feature synths like Pigments, Microfreak, and Minilogue XD. I'm also beginning to incorporate guitar a lot more!
