For out latest Burek podcast we have a skillfully layered journey into various shades of house from Birmingham based DJ and producer Mark E.
Mark E’s love affair with electronic dance music started when Manchester was Madchester and rave culture swept through England. Later he tasted house at the hands of legends like John Kelly and Frankie Knuckles at Wolverhampton scene, before moving to Birmingham for University where he is still today creating and feeding the club scene.
Mark  is one of those guys who releases at least a few amazing records each year. Now, nearly a decade of releasing music, Mark  has a discography that contains efforts for top-notch labels like Spectral Sound, Running Back, and Golf Channel and his very own imprint Merc.

Mark E has kindly provided us with second part of a triple mix series, mixed as a straight vinyl set at home, accompanied with a few bottles of fine beer and some stuffed animals. Mix also containing first airing of Mark forth-comer on Spectral Sound. BOOM! Enjoy!

Jon Charnis & Hands Free - Leviathan [Connaisseur]

Just 22 years young, the German procurer of beats Kolja Gerstenberg has a well versed affinity to the glory days of funk, soul, disco, jazz and rock, which far precede his birth. His own productions bring the sonic marriage of these golden-time influences and electronic music – it having resided in Kolja's blood and tradition, with his dad being the former Afrotrance percussionist that released on the likes of R&S and Harthouse.

Kolja's forthcoming Sand EP has been blessed with a remix of its title track, by none other than the exalted Move D. In fact, it's the first remix he's done after a two year long hiatus! And it – of course – lives up to the hype. Carrying with it much of Kolja's original in its essence, Mr. Moufang spins his own take on "Sand" by stripping elements down and rebuilding the track – all alongside the distinctive, pitched-down sample that keeps in tune with the original's retrospective swing. Instant good feels.

We’re glad to present the first EP on Smile by Vhyce, a true standout class act amidst this wave of talented young Belgian producers. He hails from the post-industrial town of La Louvière, and already has a handful of high quality releases out on labels such as No Brainer, Dikso and Sweat It Out.

Vhyce’s world is warm and comforting, his house is one where everybody gets along and where everything blends into a timeless steaming bowl of optimism soup. It’s no different with this ace EP, on which he delivers a sound that makes you want to stay just a little bit longer.

All 3 tracks are equally sound. “Just To Make Me” skips the introduction and drops you smack in the middle of the action. It’s discohouse served at just the right temperature for immediate consumption. “Beast” boasts a mix of the romance of the 50’s and balearic bliss, and “You Don’t Know” is a dark, more ambient slowshrugger infused with echoes of deep and desperate soul.

There’s a solution to the only possible problem with this release, which is deciding which track you’ll play: just play them all. Over and over again. Just like us.

To celebrate 10 Years since its first release MERCMUSIC is re-releasing Mark E's first edit " Scared ", and the B side has PLASTIC PEOPLE, which until now hasn't been available on vinyl.

Mark E last delivered on Futureboogie back in November 2014, so it’s a welcome return to the label for the Birmingham based DJ & producer.  With his Merc imprint running on full steam, and previous releases on revered labels like Spectral Sound and Running Back, Mark is becoming an ever dependent exponent of the real and raw house music vibe, and no more so than on the Basement Trax EP.

Basement Trax 1, distorted synths wander over a low-slung beat, the marching hi-hats and filter work are tweaked to perfection.  It’s a track of basic elements, but done so well, the arrangement building steadily and bags of warmth and soul deep at the heart of this track. 

The gnarly bass and classic string sounds of Basement Trax 2 make an ideal companion piece to the A side.  Delivered in the finest wild-pitch tradition, the raw sounding production packs a punch as the stomping drums and repetitive keys ramp up the heat for a real blazer of an underground club cut.

Marquis Hawkes continues to deliver tune after tune. The producer now teams up with Dublin born producer and fellow Aus Music signee Timothy Blake to deliver another bag of grooves to Will Saul and Fink’s ever-outstanding imprint. Hawkes & Blake’s Love Precipitation goes straight in with playful yet powerful piano lines and rejoicing synths that are held up with the punch of classic 909 drums, giving the track an equal amount of classic Detroit garage feels and soulful 90s New Jersey groove. 
Its safe to say we’re pretty excited about what these two are going to bring to the table in 2016 and to kick off their joint venture, i-D are pleased to share the title track from the new EP.

Premiere: Hawkes & Blake - Love Precipitation

What do you do when you are part-time bored, when you are part-time broke and – even better – when you claim to make and live dance music (of course, also part-time)? Well you are obviously running a record label. This is what Johannes Albert does since 5 fun years and 20 releases. Releasing his own music on vinyl but also his mates stuff. Frank will celebrate this anniversary among life & happiness early 2016 with two 12 inches and a lousy tour. Fred P lifting us up right from the start with his “Energy Cloud”. Soulful drum workouts make peace with heavenly layers. Far out bliss. Next in line is good friend Iron Curtis who is calling for sweet operators. Flip side offers our Session Victim boys first time on the label. Let’s have some moody juice wit’ Hauke & Matthias once and for all! Hidden Beauty is the kind of track you wouldn’t expect from Tim Toh of Philpot fame. Well it’s a beauty and now not so hidden anymore. Let’s just be frank shall we?

The shopfront looked gloomy and mysterious in the streetlight. Dust sat layered in the windows and no light could be seen from within. The crew of revellers stood eagerly outside the door, a small queue had already begun to form behind them as they waited. Finally at midnight, the bolts were unlatched and it swung open. One at a time they were ushered inside and in the distance they could hear the sound of drums echoing. Below them there was a party underway, deep down in the basement, and they were going there. 
Mark E is forever on point. His latest EP for Futureboogie is on point and 'Basement Trax' is on point.

"Can you sang?" shouted the bartender. The down and out hell hole had been falling apart for decades amidst the Texas landscape. It sat discretely alongside the highway as it had for many years, its wooden shutters blowing gently in the breeze against the old shack of a building. Inside there were few customers, the drunken women behind the til would shout at each customer who entered challenging them to sing. Her strong southern accent bellowed sharply through the quiet as she called for a "sanger" over and over again. 

Hotel Lauer is the project of Phillip and Jacob Lauer, two German brothers with a taste for percussion, synths and drums. Here is their latest release on Emotional Especial.

The tree sat atop the far away hill amidst a sea of long green grass and reeds. In the distance the child could be seen swinging from one of the tallest branches, heaven knows how he had made it so high. All that could be seen was his shadow against the darkening afternoon sky as he swang to and fro. No ladder would reach as far up as to bring him down. All of a sudden the tree let our a solemn creak, it began to talk and whispered to the crowd which had gathered beneath the swinging child. It spoke...

Based over the pond Suzanne Kraft has done a very good job of raising his profile in Europe. His sound fits perfectly on labels such as ESP, Melody As Truth, Running Back and now Kitjen. This latest effort sees him amp things up a tad as he releases three dance floor targeted tracks on the 'DJ Safety' EP.

The tables had turned on the world of spirituality. What had once been a thing so profound and adored had become black. Higher powers were at work beyond the understanding of those on earth, their worhsip had once been kind, loving and good but now the mass was tarred by a haunting set of moral judgements and all encompassing beliefs. This was a black mass. 

Amir Alexander has always had a close affiliation with Argot as a label, in 2012 he was the first artist to release on the imprint. Now he returns offering up a three track EP titled "The Butterfly".

One gun hung behind the bar, never had it been used before but there was an ever growing sense of tension amidst the gathering drunks. In the corner of the room a glass fell and smashed to pieces, this was met by a roar of laughter from the gang of youths to the left. The barman shifted nervously on his feet and glanced around the room. He dreaded the moment in which he might have to take action, make a move and use that gun, that lonely gun, that solo gun.
