Notes
This song is built on a poem written in 1969 by my Grandad, Bill Stapleton. He used to say Ahoo Ha and his kids used to say it too after he passed away. He setup the very first recording studio in Ireland in the 1940's and travelled the country recording trad musicians. He went on to have great success setting up film studios meaning he pioneered two industries on the emerald isle. He was a true genius and way ahead of his time. He is still inspiring us 40 years after his death. When making the song I decided to bring in my Nana also to pay homage to her. she was a wonderful pianist and gave me my first few lessons. I've incorporated as many of their children and grandchildren into the song saying Ahoo Ha as I could so we end up with three generations of his blood relatives included in the piece ♾️
The mere mortal words I added are imagining what he would say to his kids from heaven!

Notes
This song is a homage to melancholy in music. A hat tip to what I've experienced as written and musical ideas which most would normally perceive as sad, and I guess they are, but in a way help you deal with complicated negative emotion. For me boxing this in music and songs is an incredible therapy and offers a lovely preparedness for dealing with them in everyday life. My artist name similarily alludes to this, seeing the dark side as something that's beautiful or just a life challenge to be comfortable and sane with as we have no choice but to experience it and come out the other side. it's also my first attempt to make a song with 7/4 timing making it unique.

In this song I explore life on Ireland during and coming out of the last ice age. Apparently the ice never fully covered the land and a large band of green remained habitable from east to west. It appears to be accepted that a land bridge existed back then between Ireland and Britain. So early humans and animals could have more freely migrated here. it also suggests that during the melt the land bridge was cut off. this is likely the reason we don't have any exotic creatures like snakes etc... this is a poignant point for me, finding out why snakes actually aren't here... vs being parroted to when I was younger that Saint Patrick got rid of them... so much of religion limits the mind even when it's a seemingly harmless tale. I guess the source of this tale is the church attempting to be super natural in the eyes of its masses and in turn adding to its indoctrination of everyone in the past...


I also love the idea of focusing on Ireland well before any modern societal divides evolved on the Island. I love England as much as any other country... But I think it's bullshit that in 2024 we're still talking about some imaginary line that divides north and south. We are an Island and that's what this song aims to remember before religion fucked things up for a while!

Wrote this back in May when the Irish government recognised Palestine as a state. Hold the trophies, we were the 142nd country to formally do it so about time!

There are so many parallels between their current struggle and Ireland's battle against oppression over the centuries. I found it quite beautiful, as a nation, we at least took the high ground on recognition with that small step against the wishes of most power corners of the world.

'Over the years Ireland said a famous saying, Toicfaidh ar lá, it means our day will come. We now have a largely peaceful place to live thankfully....

I'm not a religious person. spiritual maybe, but the prayers in this song are in solidarity with the Palestinians and I know prayer for most of them is most of the hope they have! A wider awareness of their plight should eventually change that. So here's my whisper for the Palestinian people. I really hope you get the freedom you deserve 🙏🏻

This song was born on one very late night on October 4th 2024. I noticed the date and realised I hadn't stuck my neck out yet for possibly the most important vote in most of our lives, not just Americans. I shed plenty of tears making it, believe me this is all heart.

Making music is a beautiful thing. For me it's always been a portal to my most raw side when it comes to truth. I find it quite profound singing about the truth in a song knowing someone else might listen to it. It automatically creates a challenge in my head to be moral and want to find a consensus between what I and the listener would want on any subject. Religion over the years has tried to tell us that it's there we find a high ground to gauge and understand our morality. I think we find it simply in shared experience. What we all learn as right and wrong. What we all feel as pleasure and pain. What we all struggle with love and hate. Morality is just the balanced reactions we offer to these light and dark sides we all experience in the same way in our universe.

I don't hear anyone singing about Mr Orange.

I don't think any true artist could sing about a lier in any effective light.

So let's wave bye bye to the lies and appreciate it for showing us what we don't want on planet Earth and welcome an era of honesty and trust where we endeavour to understand each other and celebrate our differences ♾️☮️

Started remaking Symbiosis. The original was a semitone higher. Dropping it to 415 darkens it nicely and allows me to get the right presence on the It's alive bit. Need to practice that delivery though. Right on the edge of my range for now... Where's Mr. Miyagi...

The biggest threat humanity has ever faced. Nukes are second for me. AI is the thing that can wipe us out if we don't use it wisely. It's already latching onto our greed and needs, evolving faster from our over exuberance with it. Until regulated properly across the world one can reasonably assume we are programming the thing that might kill us.

 Quantum computers aren't far off that's when we need our ducks in a row it seems. The 'powerful' humans it's benefiting from need to be reigned in fast... Mr Altman needs to have a listen to Sarah Connor! Sounds crazy but sure where do we look to for answers to the unknown. Our imaginations!

This song is truly a blessing. Very hard to put reason around the coincidence associated with it. But that's cool! I've been an atheist for many years and this song has brought that word, blessing, back into my life where I actually feel I can use it my truth again. It's amazing.

I can't know this but maybe if you work from the original creation Session #1 and work your way through them. They have some subtle and some dramatic differences as the song grows.

To get the full scope of what was going on for me you will need to read my waffle about it but sure just getting what you get from it aurally would be an equally cool experiment following them in the order they were created.

Eileen, My Nana and Aileen whom I've started working with musically are both inspiring this song... (Note: The name Eileen means Beauty, radiance... The name Aileen means Light.... apparently.... thanks google)

My Nana gave me my first ever piano lesson. I remember it like a video. in this song I used the speed finger/thumb cross over technique she showed me early on. I think of her "Every time" I do it 😊

The song itself was triggered by something Aileen said to me yesterday. I showed her a pic of my Nana for no other reason that she has the same name just a letter off... I was made to realize that I keep my Nana's pic and Grandads book of poetry beside me in the studio all the time. So they do actually shine down on me everyday. When using his poem God and the Universe in a song I decided to throw in his Ahoo ha then too. it's down the list there... During making it I thought a lot about passing his ideas to the future. so many humans get forgotten unless the masses pick up on them. For me, this, his song my Nana's song are all the best for me as they pass a little taste of two of the super people that brought me to planet Earth 🌍  This song here gives a taste of THE most important for a lucky guy like me... This song explorers the scourge of racism on Earth. Different amounts of melanin in our skin is really the only difference! So this 'lights a torch' for the 'other shades, the hues'. People of different colour skin! We're all the furking same. The Magic slur is when Magic Johnston had to deal with a biggited NBA team owner. the good Dani let's eat... Dani Alves picked up and ate a banana that was thrown from the stands. the racist gesture is meant to suggest some humans were monkeys on the pitch. Dani Alves stood up and was counted for that moment.

apparently the amount of melanin changes Iver time in our skin depending how long our decendants have stayed in those locales with different amounts of light getting there. That's it! apart from that we all shit piss and whine

The shivers in this song refer to the rush of a feeling you get through your back and body when some idea or someone has inspired you. A flow of nerve energy I suppose. I associate relating these feelings to reading shaman texts in my late teens and early twenties and when I was first going.... What the fuck is that? Those words gave a solid answer back then for me 🌿🌎

When the world wakes up from fear I believe we will revisit all these old cultures ways of life and truly embrace the truths we may have missed. There was possibly a less insular approach to imaging their own existence back then. Found, inside each of us and discovered in maybe a simplicity muted by the noise of the modern world.
