RELEASES - The Gardens of Babylon Records

The Gardens of Babylon is a growing international brand based in Amsterdam who specialize in full experience events that combine music, spirituality, and visual effects worldwide. Launching the label in 2019, they have quickly cemented their position as a quality purveyor of house music.

Omri Guetta (@omri-guetta) is a leading Israeli DJ/producer who over the last 15 years has built an amazing back catalogue. Named #1 Underground DJ in 2017 at the Tel Aviv Music Awards, his magical sound is soaked in emotion and his label Frau Blau continues to impress. Fellow Israeli, Omer Tayar (@omer-tayar-1), has an equally impressive career in music. The guitarist and DJ-producer has been showcasing his exquisite, diverse music selection at the leading venues in Tel Aviv and beyond. Additionally, he has been spearheading the music production department at the highly respected music school Rimon. The two recently joined forces for an endless number of upcoming releases and an exciting live project.

Opening the EP with delicate melodics and sparse percussion, ‘Ever So’ begins its journey with class and style. Building in intensity over the mid-section, the main break provides a moment’s rest before spiky synths drive the final section home hard. ‘Trip In’ is a deeper excursion. Hollow pads and percussive FX keep the groove deep and attention grabbing. Mutating main lines cause an explosion of interest midway and become delightfully musical.

On remix duties, German DJ extraordinaire and Younion boss, Re.You takes ‘Ever So’ down a darker percussive path, focusing on the emotional side drawing out the tension with clever sound design, while Portuguese artist, Xinobi, adds his substantial studio skill to ‘Trip In’ making it even deeper and melodically rich.

French superstars Chambord (@wearechambord)  join The Gardens Of Babylon with an exciting EP ‘Distant Time’. Remix support comes from Joep Mencke (@joep-mencke) and German Brigante (@german-brigante).

Paris based duo, Chambord have patiently raised their game over the last 3 years with releases on high profile labels such as Sol Selectas and Kindisch, cementing their growth with club and festival sets alongside the likes of Jamie Jones, Blond:ish and Acid Pauli. This release showcases the warm, energetic sound that is sound tracking dancefloors across the globe.

Opening with two original tracks, first up ‘Distant Time’ is a deep, melodic cut with rubbery bass, shuffling percussion and an epic vocal performance the echoes around your head. Crescendoing arps and warm keys playfully melt as emotional piano chords take the lead in the main break. ‘Red Moon’ opens to a tribal bass and sparse percussion. Growing organically, the piano again adds oodles of emotion as the melancholy plays out in real time.

On remix duties TGOB label mate, Joep Mencke returns with a haunting reimagination of ‘Distant Time’ that draws on the raw emotion of the original turning it into a deep, warm early floors wonderland. For his remix of ‘Distant Time’ Sol Selectas and Dirtybird regular, German Brigante constructs a filthy, saw-toothed analogue remix that the mighty Vangelis would be proud of!

After two years without an ADE, last month they welcomed back their weekender event, ‘The Seekers Of Light’ and it was a huge success with a whole host of label artists gracing the stage once again in front of a more than excited crowd.

Next up on the release schedule are NY based brothers Corey and Ryan who form Wild Dark (@wilddark), along with Ariaano (1/2 of Anjunadeep mainstays 16BL and a member of the Dutch Electronic trio, Cubicolor) With releases on label including Flying Circus, Do Not Sit, Anjunadeep and Akbal Music their productions are dancefloor oriented, but are also very suited for those sunrise, sunset moments with more emotive and soulful melodies.

Opening with ‘The Instruments’ shuffling percussion and soft sonics compliment deep, rounded kicks. More melodic aside’s midway signal the arrival of warm analogue bass notes and vocal ad libs. Gaining pace, pads and keys add tension, reaching a dramatic and satisfying conclusion. ‘The Delay is Back’ begins with an insistent woodblock groove and one-note pad. Spiky FX nuance and clever percussion allow the minimal vibe to breathe until chants spark the track into life with some exciting drum work.

Rounding off the EP is the title track, ‘For The People’. Sparse, organic drums give way to repeated carnival chants and soaring melodics gaining pace throughout. Reaching fever pitch, the groove drives on for the perfect early morning hands-in- the- air moment.

Next up for The Gardens of Babylon, the super smooth sounds of Gab Rhome (@gabrhome) on the ‘I’ve Made The Bed For You’ EP ably supported by Francesca Lombardo (@francesca-lombardo), Baham (@bahamcollective) and Sorä (@sora-paris).

Canadian sensation Gab Rhone has come a long way since breaking onto the scene in 2013 with a release on Guy Gerber’s Supplemental Facts label. Starting out as a DJ in his hometown, it wasn’t long before his natural ability was recognised and he quickly progressed into the big leagues, with music now signed to everyone from Lee Burridge’s All Day I Dream to Sasha’s Last Night On Earth.

Capturing those warm analogue feels with soft melody is a trademark for Gab, who unleashes more delight with opener ‘I’ve Made The Bed For You’. Groovy hats, a swinging bassline and sweet vocals make this a joy to hear from start to finish. On remix duties UK-based Francesca Lombardo deepens the groove for a late-night wig out, teasing the main motifs into a darker sound. Fellow Canadians, Baham, create a new atmosphere with their sparse, jazz-influenced take. Sombre muted trumpet and vocal word samples take this to new heights.

Moving on to their second original production, ‘Chandelier Cleaner, a disco-y bongo groove and saw-toothed bass lead the way. Vocodered vocals midway add a nice curveball for the more refined floors. Sora take a wholly different approach completely reimagining the track with tinkling arps and an air of hopefulness.

Breaking into the scene in 2018, Armenian artist Socko (@sockolive) has made great strides as a DJ playing for the majority of clubs and events in Armenia, becoming very popular in his motherland. Opening his production account in 2019 on Pipe and Pochet, Socko is now signed to several influential labels including Behrouz’ Do Not Sit, Shango and down.

Opening with two tracks featuring Romanian artist IV-IN, ‘Queen Is An Eagle’ a low- slung, nu-disco vibe saunters with bluesy vocals. Rubber band guitar licks and sleazy keys provide musical asides as the track gathers momentum midway before an oasis of a break and chunky conclusion.

Next up ‘Ghost is Not Human’ continues apace with nuanced guitars forming the low end, and moody keys punctuating the sombre male vocals. Organ lines midway add energy and interest. Finally, with the vocal talents of D’Litte, the EP draws to a close with ‘Red Wet Dress’. Ticking clock percussion and sweet vocals juxtapose in the most delightful way as a disturbing mutated siren signals the introduction of bass and tension. A thoroughly classy and creatively complex debut for an artist on the cusp of worldwide notoriety.
