São Paulo’s Spaniol (@s_paniol) opens up the new year with the first 2021 release from The Gardens of Babylon: Suites do Amar (eng. Ocean Songs About Love). After a year of worldwide uncertainty, the multi-instrumental Brazilian draws from his own personal experiences to bring a 6-track mini album compiled of universal themes, familiar emotions, and fresh perspectives.

As the creator and resident of Colectivo Sonido Trópico of São Paulo, Spaniol is a staple of his city’s local scene. The collective’s transcendental parties have brought the likes of Rampue, Oceanvs Orientalus, Xique Xique, Holger Hecler, and more to the city center while also traversing the world from Tulum to Tokyo. As a lifelong musician, Spaniol’s introduction to electronic music evolved from a background in classical guitar and flute as something of a “happy accident” whilst in his teens. Good thing for us though, as this current sound draws from all that surrounds him and has been featured on labels like Sol Selectas while gracing the stages at Katerblau, Sysifos, Heart Ibiza, De Martkantine and Public Works amongst others.

With elements of Classical, flashes of Brazilian Pop, Jazz, Samba, Caimbó, combined with both analog and didital percussion, the sounds of Spaniol are narrative, edgy, and undeniably energetic; Suites do Amar being a perfect example. Created on a secluded family property on the veritable island paradise of Ilhabela, Suites do Amar is a narrative about loss and rebirth, familiarity and uncertainty, companionship and seclusion. It encapsulates what all of us have felt throughout the past year, written in the micro and personal but representative of a macro reality. The Lp kicks off with the poetic musing on love and forgiveness, Amar:Perdão before the Brazilian classical inspired Lundu De Santa Maria Da Tempestade represents the coming storm. At its halfway point, Algernoia Brasiliensis starts to lighten the atmosphere through the realization of colour and life – a yellow/purple flower only native to Ilhabela. Then, an ode to a trusted companion and loyal company, Nina (aka Spaniol’s beloved Border Collie) reminds us of life’s little pleasures. Papaya Azul then sees Spaniol team up with longtime friend Salvador Araguaya on the ode to all things blue jazz. Finally, after 6 months on the near entirely rainforest clad island, São Pedro welcomes both Spaniol and listeners back to the mainland and the familiar with a fresh perspective and open heart.

After a 2020 that saw releases from Anstascia, Carlita, Jacob Groening, Vander, as well as the second annual The Monastery Compilation, The Gardens of Babylon now welcomes Spaniol to its label family. With Suites do Amar, he reminds us that regardless of what comes our way, it’s just life. Storms can be weathered, what’s lost can be found, and the things we hold dear may be the simplest pleasures of them all.

"In German literary tradition, there’s a type of novel called the bildungsroman. A typical bildungsroman follows a hero’s trajectory from birth to adulthood, charting their scrapes with reality and confrontations with chaos, until they finally emerge – a little scratched and bruised, but holding a hard-won nugget of enlightenment. Sanoi’s new self-titled album is a bildungsroman in deep house form, tracing the artist’s growth and fall from innocence, his confrontation with reality and eventual reconciliation with the vastness of the universe.

By the sixth track (‘Asmodi’), the strands of the narrative are starting to come together. In the Avestan language, Asmodi is the demon of wrath, and you can hear Sanoi battling that demon in the twists and oscillations of the saw wave bassline. And even as they fight, there’s a sense that the protagonist is discovering a way to tame this demon. As he gains his balance, flickers of innocent joy start to show themselves again; piano hammers and crisp pitched percussion cast sunlight over the battle scene."

Noraj Cue returns home to Happy Camper Records to introduce his latest musical adventure ‘Inner Glitch’, a fantastic full length album series. It comes as an emblematic sampler on vinyl followed by a trilogy of digital releases.

This Dutch artist likes organic sounds filled with real world dust and compelling grooves. He explores every corner of the house realm and always makes musical stories that keep you locked. Constantly tinkering with drum and synth, Noraj Cue has applied his unique talent for experimentation to one studio and one album. And in a career that spans 15 years, his creative touch has impacted the EP's of Tale and Tone, Katermukke and Connaisseur Recordings.

Noraj Cue offers up a musical thesis with Inner Glitch. He explores what he posits is the three aspects that comprise the being of human beings. He suggests that in life we are either presenting our outer self (polished, camouflaged, rehearsed), our inner self (vulnerable, protective, emotional) or our core self (connected to life itself and fundamental to the fulfilment of our self-expression). His music explores the amorphous space of each self and the indistinct places they meet. "Your feelings and perceptions, is that you? Or are these them?” The exploration of which has taken this courageous artist on a musical epic. And now, simply by closing your eyes after hitting play, so can you.

Things kick off with the lush deep house synth-scapes of 'This Won't Last' and take in wonky melodic grooves like 'Bloody Musicbox,' chunky tribal drums on 'Red Throated Diver' and dubby minimal like 'Stoffig.'

Following remixes & EP's on Tale & Tone, UnderYourSkin, Klassified and Supernature in 2019, this majestic new album touches on a wide span of moods and flavours, and shows off this Dutch artist's unique sonic vision and fine synth skills in real style.

Anstascia D’Elene (@anstascia) is no stranger to the electronic music underground. The Canadian born, Ibiza based artist launched onto the international scene over a decade ago as one half of Blond:ish. Those days saw the duo crisscross the world, providing several renowned releases, both short and longform, via the likes of Kompakt and Get Physical Music. Now, as Anstascia breaks out on her solo path with a renewed sense of enthusiasm and fresh creative spirit, she is set to unleash a world of musical output onto the international dancefloor. For those who know Anstascia, they can all attest how worldliness and spirituality are core elements of both her life and work. Through the interjection of Eastern sounds and psychedelic elements, Anstasica’s current musical output merges her past, present, and future, into something exotic and undeniably fresh.

This hybridity of experience and raw talent pours through TUVANTANTAN. Born from 2020’s lockdown, where Anstascia explored deep sonic meditations, Tuvantantan combines raspy, prophetic Mongolian throat singing with a dance floor friendly groove. Across its nearly 8- minutes, Tuvantantan travels from the depths of Ibizan dancefloor frenzy through the heights of Far East reflection, all while maintaining the distinctive experience of an unforgettable The Gardens of Babylon night somewhere on the planet.

And those nights are no stranger to Anstascia either, who has been featuring on The Gardens of Babylon lineups since virtually the beginning. With Blond:ish, she made appearances at the likes of the epic ADE soiree The Seekers of Light, as well as gracing the decks of the first ever The Monastery festival. Solo, she has appeared alongside BLOEM during the internationally streamed Global Isolation Party series. Now, with Tuvantantan, Anstascia joins Geju, Jacob Groening, Carista, and Vander as part of the label family as well.
