Q. How would you describe yourself?
A. As a person who’s not good at talking about himself for sure! Umm, I would say a music fan first and foremost, a sin vergüenza, an optimist, and (most importantly) a lover :)

Q. How long have you been a part of the NY music scene?
A. I was born and raised here but would say I’ve been in the NYC music scene since the early 2010’s? (If growing up going to emo shows doesn’t count as the “NYC music scene” lol). I’ve been sneaking into club nights in Brooklyn and Downtown since before I was able to drink legally. 

I started DJing frfr around 2016 tho, a friend asked me to DJ her party and I was embarrassed from mixing on an app on my phone and got a controller. Shoutout Rocio if you see this.

Q. Tell us about this mix. 
A. I put this mix together over the course of the last 2 months? I spent a while meticulously curating the tracklist to settle on a vibe that reflects everything I love about music, while keeping it approachable, and fresh etc. 

In the end I wanted to put together a good range of my current influences, undeniable grooves, and obvious bops through a Juanita's lens. Ultimately tried to not take myself too serious and just have fun TBH. 

I tend to kinda transform my sound based on the context of what I'm doing but this one feels super personal and uniquely me :) Hope you dig it.

With his lengthy, freewheeling sets, spanning everything from dancehall to new wave and IDM, Tom Boogizm is gaining recognition as Manchester's best DJ, playing sets that are eclectic not as a flex but as a necessity. He appeared at the Unsound 2022 opening party at 89, the former strip club beneath Hotel Forum, and delivered one of the festival's highlights - which you can now experience as an Unsound podcast.

Heading up the Shotta Tapes label, Boogizm has also developed a reputation for his unclassifiable productions under the Rat Heart moniker, where he's able to lurch into polar zones just as easily as he does in his DJ sets, flickering from deranged lo-fi disco into melancholy blues without missing a beat. It's Northern British eccentricity at its most blunted.

SLINK (@simisea, @turiyarrao, @itsenayet, and @kwatakwata) went b4b all night at our favorite club Nowadays on Jan 21st. Without a doubt, one of the most fun sets we've ever played and the dancers were riding the wave with us the entire night.

This is us in peak party mode! We couldn't figure out where to start and stop this recording, and ultimately decided, let's just post the whole thing :)

SLINK All Night @ Nowadays - Jan 21st 2023

Spring 2023 is shaping up to be Tzusing season, with appearances at Manchester's The White Hotel (where he'll make his debut in the city at a party with the PAN crew this evening), Rewire and Lyon festival Nuits Sonores all taking place in the coming weeks. This playful selection of hard drum, hip-hop edits and other dancefloor weapons plucked from his current club set rotation makes it easy to see why.
