Cult figure and underground icon Roman Flügel joined us last June for our monthly radio show on Echobox. We caught up with the German maestro to discuss his longevity in the scene from early collaborations in the 90’s such as Primitive Painter to present day output, including an upcoming album. Parisian producers – Jacques Bon and Vincent Drux – take a seat with TTA to discuss their specializations inside a shared space and within their debut album, A Long Way. For thirteen years, Jacques Bon managed (the now retired) Paris branch of Smallville Records. Otherwise, Jaques Bon has earned an impressive reputation, releasing on other notable record labels such as Giegling, Live at Robert Johnson, and Mule Musiq. Vincent Drux is a “behind-the-scenes type”; who uproots his technical background as a sound engineer to hone his sonic pallet. While majoring in sound design, Drux recently started his own label, Cabale Records… stay tuned as they launch past the infancy stages. Although this is their first album together, the two are long-acquainted, their first joint track being Fading Sail – released on Lawrence’s Dial Records – in 2020. The duo's like-minded friendship revels in a balanced dynamic of musical intersections. Ideal for those in-between hours, A Long Way (released 7/1/22) is eight tracks, featuring futuresque blends of warm color atop some cooler minimal shades. Despite the standing point, Jacques Bon and Drux’s recent collaboration has requited a positively bittersweet confection.

Cited by Kompakt boss Michael Mayer as “The hottest thing in the 4/4 business right now”, 2018 was a busy year for the mysterious Venetian producer/DJ. Fango’s Viscera series, a trilogy EP release and a sonic essay of the body, was crowned by the industries main players for all its weird unfathomable brilliance with the track “Rectum” taking all the dance floor’s that mattered by storm. Not to mention a string of hit remixes for Dj Hell’s “Car Car Car”, Rebolledo’s “Pow Pow” and Red Axes “Sun My Sweet Sun. Last years his latest trilogy series, Urano, which featured the dance-floor banger “Sikhote” all received premieres from Resident Advisor, whilst his full-length LP “GEA” received widespread critical acclaim.

Artists like 2manydjs, Maceo Plex, Dixon, Seth Troxler, Laurent Garnier, Mano Le Tough, Solomon, Ben UFO, etc. are major supporters as is Jackmaster who featured him on his latest Dj Kick’s series whilst Marcel Dettmann describing his track Vampiro as “Really straight but I love the atmosphere, it gives me goosebumps!” Fango is a virtuous perfectionist obsessed with mixing bass-drums, recording percussions and sampling drummers. It doesn’t matter if it’s a drum machine or a gong from an orchestra, he will make it sound right.

Today's transmission is delivered by Lithuanian artist Erikas aka Roudtraxx. As an eager and restless digger, Erikas has been involved in the Lithuanian music scene for over 5 years at various record shops, clubs, bars, and festival nights. In addition to this, he is a crew member of independent community voice of Radio Vilnius.

In the words of Roudtraxx "I feel glad to contribute, devote and stay true to myself. Music culture & the scene guide to interesting feelings, discoveries, understandings. Even a simple hour-long DJ mix may impact."

Expect hints of a rolling acid, twangy tech and progressive house.

Torture the Artist - your source for contemporary electronic music

Torture the Artist is a webzine, or a magazine made for the internet, geared towards those with a passion for contemporary electronic music, with subgenres including Techno, Tech House, Deep House and Eletronica, as well as a small amount of Indie and Alternative. Founded in 2014 by Holger Breuer, a German native and lover of the arts, Torture the Artist now consists of five team members from all around the world.

In addition to publishing interviews, music reviews, DJ charts and track premieres, the webzine hosts out a  podcast series called 'art:casts'. This medium gives DJs and producers the artistic freedom to highlight their different musical styles while not being restricted by factors such as setting, and connecting them to a wider audience. 

Being in its ninth year, Torture the Artist has gained a strong and active online support group, including music enthusiasts to label managers and artists themselves, creating a cohesive community with music as their bond.
