Hot on the heels of Manuel Tur’s heavyweight vinyl reissue of his cinematic downtempo long player ‘Intertextural’ comes this package of remixes of four standout tracks by DJ Counselling, All is Well and Japan’s Yuu Udagawa.

London producer DJ Counselling opens the EP with his energetic version of ‘Omina’, raising tempo and hands with an expertly executed arrangement, while the newly added filtered synth chords echo some of Tur's best-known releases of the late noughties. Next up is Montreal’s Frédéric Blais aka All Is Well.  After his recent album success on Drumpoet, and his current long player drop under his Fred Everything moniker, the Canadian master producer turns up the heat on ‘Flakon’ flipping it into a head-nodding groove masterpiece that recalls the subtle 90s trip-hop flavour of the original version. On the B-side, Tokyo native Yuu Udagawa - who has collaborated with Tur on several occasions - unleashes two shimmering, ethereal remixes of ‘Slow White’ and ‘Shadowgraph’ that guide the listener on a floating journey through Yuu’s signature sparkling sound.

FÜR ELISE is a young Berlin band that emerged from Killekill's inclusive music project Ick Mach Welle. The band consists of African-German Elise Neumann on the microphone and
the legendary Turkish-Finnish music producer and crooner Khan of Finland, elementary component of the queer scene for over 30 years. Elise impresses with her soulful voice, incredible stage presence and freestyling skills, Khan with his over-all beauty and brilliance on the production. The two met for the first time in late 2023, clicked immediately and here they are with a whole stage show and this release on the young label IMW in their luggage.
The EP combines 3 tracks of electronic dub with quite a range in style: The title track Paradiso comes along in a very tropical fashion and has almost mainstream appeal. The lyrics reflect on Elise’s longing back to Barbados where she was brought up - the classic paradise with white sandy beaches and palms. She wants to go back, but she also makes quite clear that compared to Barbados Berlin is the place she actually wants to be at. It’s a
love/hate relationship between her and Barbados as well as Berlin.
The second track Boombastic is more on the dub techno dance floor tip. The lyrics also reflect on Elise’s roots, this time with a pumping kick drum laying underneath, which matches the anger potential this topic seems to bring up in Elise.
The third track Chemical Reaction is the most abstract piece and tells a story of a failed love on top of a dark and melancholic dub track.

Well-known for offering a plethora of authenticity, Feinstoff continues to deliver a significant edge on innovative electronic music and disco movements. This ethos is omnipresent in their first release, a collection of remixes for Romanian icon Alexandrina.

Curses' ever-powerful sonic presence and undeniable influence on the scene is felt greater by the day. He delivers a refreshing touch to his remix of ‘Black Magic’, with his signature baritone guitar and defined drums. In his dub version, more driving tension is added, along with a faster pace. Curses delivers yet another two gems dripping in his unmistakable arcane romanticism.

Greco—German powerhouse Local Suicide and Slow Motion Records affiliate Radondo join forces on their ethereal remix of ‘Animal Power’. Alexandria's vocals weave between twinkling arps and an ominous call and response between synthesized vocals. We’re transported to the dimly lit realms of their respective tastes.

Feinstoff label head Freudenthal snaps ‘Sirin’ into action with a euphoric reimagining of the original. Soaked in Feinstoff’s contemporary Nostalgia and subtle nods to post-punk, Freudenthal readies the remix for the Summer. The remixes all carry the thread of Feinstoff’s abundance of arpeggiated dance-floor magic.

Bucharest’s Walentin Pauer provides a melodic flip of ‘Sirin' with flashes of Electro and an almost C78-style drum pattern. With cosmic-style FX and washed-out hi-hats, we are led to a powerful dark wave payoff.

Borusiade transforms ‘Animal Power’ into an emotive, cinematic soundscape riding a gently oscillating arp, which builds to the wails and cries of Alexandrina’s climatic vocals from the original.

Rounding off the remix EP with conclusive flair is Mathmatrix’s mix for ‘Magnetic Eyes', a cathartic, anthemic piece weaving through flashes of alt-pop. The vocals sit beautifully within the mix's crushed edges, resulting in a breathtaking meeting of visions.

With a mantra to give Nostalgia a modern twist and provide an ever-effective launch pad for artists to expand their horizons, Feinstoff’s first release sets a strong tone for future releases and solidifies this vision.

Soiree Records continue turning heads with their latest various artist offering, "Everland". Hitting shops from June 17, 2024 - this record feels like a cross-section of what the label has been offering the ever shifting sands of the Deep House scene in recent years. Lumberjacks In Hell is the Amsterdam based label run by Marcel Vogel that was established in 2010 and has long been a great source of leftfield club tunes. Having worked with a variety of international artists like Jamie 3:26, Philou Louzolo, Rayko, Karizma and Giovanni Damico, LJIH proudly presents its first release in two and half years from Lu/Lu & LYMA with ‘Hotmoltenlava’.
 
Production duo Lucas van Ee and Tjerk Lammers are collaborators extraordinaire, brothers speaking in code and working in unison, a hive mind of ideas and creativity that was always bound to erupt like a Vulcano. Lu/Lu & LYMA is a side project of the Amsterdam based LIKEMINDS, and together they share a studio together on the outskirts of the city. Both Artists are heavily involved in the local music scene, a scene that defies genre in favour of more sonic adventures. As part of this ever-merging network of collaborators, Lu/Lu & LYMA also manifest their music in a vibrant live set.
 
Across the seven tracks of ‘Hotmoltenlava’, the music serves as a captivating odyssey of electrifying new house anthems that seamlessly combine the pulsating production rhythms of Lu/Lu with the sultry tones of LYMA. Lossless co-founder and passionate music as well as tech enthusiast Mathias Schober mixed and compiled the latest art:cast and comes along with what can yet be described as a very authentic piece of the arts. The Berliner, who will release his new The Fall EP shortly, slides through different sounds and musical approaches still remains true to one, his style and delivers a set that's worthy the name classy, if not to say classic. Mathias' simply balances the amount of deepness, club vibes and headphone listening experience so smoothly that it feels like riding a (sound)wave forever giving the listener the chance to breathe before picking up a new wave that brings one closer to the beach if so it feels like riding towards the horizon or the point when the blue sky meets the blue sea.

Torture the Artist - your source for contemporary electronic music

Torture the Artist is a webzine, or a magazine made for the internet, geared towards those with a passion for contemporary electronic music, with subgenres including Techno, Tech House, Deep House and Eletronica, as well as a small amount of Indie and Alternative. Founded in 2014 by Holger Breuer, a German native and lover of the arts, Torture the Artist now consists of five team members from all around the world.

In addition to publishing interviews, music reviews, DJ charts and track premieres, the webzine hosts out a  podcast series called 'art:casts'. This medium gives DJs and producers the artistic freedom to highlight their different musical styles while not being restricted by factors such as setting, and connecting them to a wider audience. 

Being in its ninth year, Torture the Artist has gained a strong and active online support group, including music enthusiasts to label managers and artists themselves, creating a cohesive community with music as their bond.
