Starlight Turns Dark

There was a boy who loved the diamond
Glove in hand and dreamin big
Oldest son of seven children
In a house that barely fit

Two big sisters watched him try
Little brothers by his side
Wore thick glasses chubby cheeks
But he played with all his pride

He didn’t make the A team
No cheers or hometown fame
Played on that dusty lower field
But he still loved the game

While his little brother shined with ease
A natural through and through
He kept his nose down in the dirt
With every throw he grew

Slow at first but gaining speed
From the dugout to the end zone
Chasing every dream he'd need

In junior high he hit his stride
Grew tall and tough and fast
Football track and Babe Ruth ball
His shadow finally passed

A chubby kid turned running back

After visiting Norfolk Island this year (2025), I was moved to write a song about some of its unique aspects of everyday life - the quirky local phone book entries, the priority that cows have over vehicular traffic and the Norfolk Wave - as well as acknowledging the history of the island’s permanent settlement by descendants of HMS Bounty’s mutineers.

The Bounty Legacy

The song is about the pain of discovering all deceitful friends. Why do we tolerate the betrayal?
