My original intention was to include this track on the Foundation album, but it didn't quite fit... mainly due to its slightly "breathless" quality. I don't often do this but I got a bit carried away with the synth and guitar "wig-out" towards the end. The synth lead was played on a Native Instruments Maschine 2 pad, rather than a keyboard.

Call On Me

Hello… thanks for dropping by. This song is a loud, electric-slide song. It has overdriven slide, some homemade (learning how to:no drum kit) percussion, a vocal harmony and gravely vocals. I am happy I am able to do this at all, at 68 years of age… especially singing, which greatly wanes with age. (I really just started to sing within the last decade or so.) Traveling On… may be seen as a metaphor, or not, it doesn’t really matter. It might signify personal change or a movement toward and/or away from something. There is a hint of recognition, insofar as the unwavering essence of who we are… There is a suggestion of working toward peace. Again, this could be seen as metaphorical, in a sense of personal introspection. What do we espouse, condone and accept in this life for ourselves and society? Do you want to ‘Travel On’? This song began on the last day of the cold January of this year, when Ken sat down at his piano and recorded an improvisational jam. This is the first song Eclectic Collective has done where Ken started it with a piano, so we were all very excited to work on it.
  Josh was the first one to add a part, adding his fretless bass guitar, and going back and forth with Ken, while he added the drums to match the groove up right. Josh also added the mandolin after the guitars were laid down, as well as the descending synth blasts you hear throughout. Before all that, though, Stephen recorded the first half of the thrilling guitar you hear in there. After Stephen had his part down, Tez came along and finished the guitar work in the second half. Last, but certainly not least, Mark added the amazing symphonic elements, specifically the horns and flute melody. He also added the cold January wind sound, created using his breath and some tinkling bells.
  Once it was all wrapped up, we asked Stephen to put a bow on it with his expert production, which he came through with, as always.
  As mentioned, this is an extraordinary offering from EC, staring Ken not only on drums, but on the keys, as well. It felt like we were jamming all together in the same room, and hope it comes across that way. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed creating it.

Baby of the 80s, teen of the 90s, obsessed with the 60s and 70s; an FM wannabe in a Youtube world. I guess I just wasn't made for these times. I like songwriting in the Gershwin, Tin Pan Alley, Lennon/McCartney tradition. I prefer records to singles. I prefer three minutes to ten.

According to my mama, I was whistling before I learned to talk. I played organ in the Memphis garage rock scene between 2000 and 2016. I've done a lot of studio work, adding keys to records by songwriters that I really admire.

I'm now focused on recording my own songs. I have a minimal home recording set up with a laptop, microphones, cheap guitars, drums, piano, and a grab bag of other toys. All my lyrics rhyme with the truth, or at least I think they do. 

Life is short and there are more good songs then there are raindrops. Which is to say: thank you very much for lending me your ears.
