The title is inspired by the phenomenon of recognizing familiar patterns in random objects, which Priori artfully incorporates into his sound design. After another long hiatus, BEAM is excited to present the vinyl debut from rising star and nebulous neurocranker, al dente. Over 4 tracks, ‘Running and Falling Over’ captures the stylistic fluidity we have come to know and love from Naarm/Melbourne. Ever present traces of Dozzy refract through millennium-bug tek haus, summoning atmospheres of deep yet ever playful psychedelia. Opening the A-side on ‘Ripple Effect’, pulsating drones and echoes of organic percussion slither through the undergrowth. ‘Soft Steps’ explores fractal resonance amid expansive, evolving textures. Flipping to the B-side, ‘Unfold’ melds paranoiac psy with a wiggly tek swagger. Slow-burner ‘Blue Trial’ closes out the EP – a proggy roller for the eternal sunrise.

As the name suggests, Estuary Tapes unites the calm tranquility of murky waters with agitated tides to form a hypnotic musical experience. countryside o ering a unique source of inspiration to the label, their up-and-coming releases transport us back to a sort of dark celtic mysticism, a colorful serenity, an unﬁnished quest. pi pi pi premiere: Command D - Half Blue (Violet Mix) [Sure Thing]

Command D’s life between the urban and green surrounds of Eora/Sydney shine through in his Animalia debut with a smoked out, dubby four tracker. Diving between slinky downtempo and dance-floor driven beats, weighty bass-lines, crisp percussion and submerged pads wrap the record in a shrouded atmosphere of tension and release.

Animalia would like to acknowledge that all tracks were produced on the traditional land of the Gadigal peoples of the Eora Nation, and pay respect to their elders past, and present. Sovereignty was never ceded.

Just over one year since our inaugural release we present the second instalment of our annual V/A compilation series ‘Volume Two,’ whereby thirteen so-called Australian artists weave a sonic tapestry that draws from the depths of the contemporary and intertwines with a nostalgic touch of 90s psychedelia.

From ambient dreamscapes and downtempo grooves to rhythmic echoes of dub and trip-hop, ‘Volume Two’ creates a journey where reality and imagination seamlessly collide. It’s a kaleidoscope of sounds, where lush pads and intricate sound design create a piece of music that is a testament to the boundless creativity thriving in the heart of Australia’s musical landscape.

With ‘Sliding Doors’, Eora producer, Sanguine, greets Lost Properties with an elegant blend of ambient, dub and downtempo, full of skittering echoes and textural ear candy. 

‘Gone To Taste A Dream’ opens with lush pads and twinkly keys, before giving way to blissed out drums at 100bpm. Picking up the pace, ‘Push Not Pull’ postulates atmospheric breakbeat through tablas and congas, echoing out into the void. ‘Denture Venture’ casts its gaze to the stars, with a wide-eyed bass roller, replete with found sounds and smooth washes of noise. Opening with an eerie tone, ‘Ear Gum’ gives way to crunchy breaks and chirping synths.

Rich in detail and intricate in approach to rhythm, Sanguine delivers a love letter to dub, equally indebted to ambient voyagers like Purelink as it is to Skee Mask.

pi premiere: Sanguine - Push Not Pull (Lost Properties)

For our next release of 2024 Command D, the dynamic Australian artist residing on Gadigal land, returns to Pure Space with his next EP, "New Devices."

"New Devices" is a testament to resilience and innovation, instigated by the theft of his laptop and loss of production files in motion. The need to start the EP journey afresh led to a subsequent shift in his music production methods. As Command D explains, "The tracks came from the production of my first live set and are a representation of my workflow during this time. Most elements were made using a more hands-on/'live take' approach."

Opening the EP, "Swallow" captivates with its low slung bass and swirling percussion. Let the dubbed out synthesis warm you as you drift into the abyss, with the four to the floor beat keeping you grounded through the dance.

Next up is "Madman," a heady and energising cut that continues Command D’s exploration into deep dance grooves. The staunch synthesis keeps your head down until the dub chords lift you up. One fitting for sunrise or sunset, up to you really..

"CG Phrase" introduces more intensity released only as the swirling atmospheres lift. The track toys with tension as it pulls you deeper into the sonic vortex.

The EP culminates with "Heavy Clouds," a cathartic and heavenly composition that offers a moment of introspective rapture. Its ethereal melodies and soothing rhythms provide a serene contrast to the preceding tracks, closing the EP on a contemplative note.

Command D's exploration into new generation dub techno continues to evolve, with "New Devices" pushing the boundaries of his production ever-onwards. His style, characterised by sonically rich and murky tones and meticulous attention to detail, remains a hallmark of his work; an auditory journey that is both captivating and transformative. Bliss out.
