recorded separate layers on my modular system: stuttering voice (radio music sample thru beads), noise swell (mainly plaits), clicks (turing machine gate outs directly into mixer), simple tonal sequence (plaits fm voice)

combined in ableton live with some automation. listening again, maybe held back a bit on the noise swell. so it's more easy listening than originally intended

disquiet0666 - revolting revelation

Disquiet Junto 0673 asked us to record a song in which what is normally loud becomes quiet, and what is quiet becomes loud.

I started by improvising a fairly straightforward if dark verse-chorus progression on piano. I added simple bass, some programmed drums, and a lead guitar part. That simple arrangement became the canvas. 

To meet the criteria of the prompt, I threw lots of reverb on all 4 tracks— like a ridiculous amount of reverb. I always use sends to aux busses for reverb design for different instruments, so now it just was a matter of cranking up the sends and capturing just the wet (effected) signal and none of the dry (original) signal from the aux track. Some creative audio routing made that possible.

The result, to me, sounds like a song that is inside-out. What is loud is quiet, what is quiet is loud. Enjoy!

Disquiet Junto Project 0674: Cerberus Sample
The Assignment: Make a song not just with but from just one sample.

Step 1: You’re going to make a song with just one short sample as its entire sonic source material. Select your sample wisely.

Step 2: Make a song in which the sample you selected in Step 1 serves as the raw resource for all the different parts of the song. Use nothing but that solitary sample. Here is one example of a song with four parts: melody, backing chordal material, bass, and beat. Three parts may be best, but make as complex and busy a piece of music as you desire, certainly.

Organ loops made with a broken casio and played through bone conduction speakers. The speakers were used to vibrate the mesh covering from an a/c fan. Extra layers of nail violin. All recorded with contact mics. No effects, just EQing.
