SOLSTICE | PART II- Winter’s Bone

The winter solstice brings dramatic landscapes of cold and dark, and a time of poetic reflections. With the evocative, dramatic light of Winter, we find our spirits lifted and warmed by the bittersweet beauty of love, in spite of the chill. The title Winter’s Bone is derived from the movie, however here more as an evocative character combining both the sensation of cold and shades of white, the bone showing our barest, most honest form. As such I hope this piece tells a story of longing, melancholy and hope…

THE RETURN OF LIGHT
The freezing night is still and thick, but it’s darkness will soon be broken,
The end of longest day ahead and the start of a the new day to come. 
Amidst the snow and biting air, the heartbeat holds steady, 
Anticipating Spring ahead and what the new light of day holds unspoken.

The dancing rays, sky set aglow, bring warmth and light, 
Languor and strife come to a peaceful end, 
Bringing in a change, whence the days will start to bright. 
The solstice, half way through the season, gives a happy mend.

The promising return of warm and gold, 
Sparkles of life and beauty, both will unfold. 
The spiral of life and gift of hope, 
Breathes fresh life into the lands that we roam.

Good afternoon my SC music friends. I have a really nice one to share with you today. It’s my first time collaborating with the exceptional and enigmatic ambient artist, Wodwo (https://soundcloud.com/user-364196783-552705040, https://rayrobinson.bandcamp.com/); and the results are quite captivating, iffen I do say so myself. 

If you haven’t encountered Wodwo’s ambient works yet, dim the lights… get the headphones (maybe not in that order, so you don’t trip over anything). His creations (to the workings of my mind) are soundscapes perfectly designed as launching points for me to paint my own stories into... the groundwork is laid so spaciously and evocatively. 

Pulled directly from his bio, ‘born to be mild’ sums his works up perfectly; beautiful sound sculptures that let the mind go quiet and go adventuring… for just a little while.

So without further delay, we offer you our first collaborative effort, ‘Paint Eventually Peels”. We hope you enjoy. :)

This site is for my musical avatar or alter ego. Architect/partner/company owner by day, I find myself playing guitar and writing these tracks in afterhours, at nights, evenings, when in need of a dose of guitar sounds. You will find a wide range of guitar oriented music, ranging from Jazz to Blues, Flamenco to Classical, Rock to Fusion. And many collaborations with some great musicians.

I have been playing guitar since I was 11 years old, largely self-taught and have tried different styles and instruments: Renaissance lute, flamenco guitar, classical guitar, steel string guitar and electric guitar with which I have been playing in styles ranging from rock and metal in my early years to classical music, some American Folk music, jazz rock, prog rock, flamenco nuevo and fusion.

It’s been a splendid time here so far, in collaborating with a lot of brilliant musicians on SoundCloud and sharing ideas and the passion for music. 
My collaborations are with musicians that I have a deep respect for and have a mutual appreciation for real instruments, and musical styles that focus on letting the instruments “shine”.

Currently I am using Amplitube and Auria on an iPad as DAW with Final Touch for mastering. For acoustic recording I use an Apogee microphone.
