@squidger: haha, no sax, no flute, this is the clarinet…it's such a chameleon instrument. It has a 4 octave range, much more than other wind instruments, and it can both whisper and shout, so the clarinet basically is an instrument of many voices…that's one of the main reasons I love it though it's taken me all my life to get to know it

I really like this when its shifting between sadness and happiness (just like real life).. And the music really gets alive from the way you play. Very enjoyable:-)

One take recordings are the best, just perfect, I ´m not jewish, but jewish music attracts me a lot, amazing mood shifts, amazing influence of the music on listener´s mind

Dave, I feel I shoukd apologise for not hearing these beautiful pieces.  I come on Soundcloud so rarely these days and I see I have been missing a treat. What a delicious feel this one has.

Some of you know I gig regularly with a Klezmer band called Hazaar. We haven't got around to making recordings yet so I thought I'd represent that for now with a couple of "one take" recordings of my favourite Klezmer tunes on clarinet. This one is a Nigun, a melody from the Jewish liturgy that has  migrated into a secular instrumental. This is quite a common and acceptable thing in Jewish music. The Christian equivalent would be a tune from the mass being played as a wedding dance I guess. Anyway, it's a wonderful melody; the abrupt key changes and shifts in mode are very typical and suggest emotional ambiguity and complexity; this is what attracts me to Jewish culture in general and Jewish music in particular.

narration: the poem is quite some decades old - last century, millennium even, and all that. it was quite a different life I led back then. the original title is: "an antenna cast into the open" - this also was the first line when I wrote the poem .... but I skipped it for this version, jettisoning the poem into the imbalance that suits its sonification's atonal qualities.
