With this first, eponymous single, we are proud to introduce the blazingly frenetic, techno- chromatic, jolting and stirring world of RKDIA.

Danish Morten Schantz (synth+vocals) and Swedish-Norwegian Anton Eger (drums) are well-known names on the jazz and fusion scenes of Europe. For a while now, both have been pushing the envelope, applying jazz logic in all sorts of unconventional shapes and places, seeking out the new.

With RKDIA, they come together in a burst of color and rhythm. Armed with technical brilliance and a penchant for the epic, the duo spin up forceful and hypnotic works that inject the free kinetic of jazz into synth-based electronica and cascading power pop.

With sprawling melody and syncopated beats, the sound lives intensely in its own zone, a (dare we say) completely original place. One minute it goes to the body in repetitive grooves like house music. The next, it envelops you in warm- blooded synth-pop pathos.

All this is on full display on this first single, RKDIA. Eger’s quick paced, whirling drums, switching the gears of Schantz’ harmonic riffs that swell and soar into winged crescendos.

Le piano est à l’honneur aujourd’hui grâce à Nils Frahm !
Clin d’oeil à cet artiste de génie et pour célébrer cette journée spéciale, j’ai voulu préparer cette pièce, "Demi-Pause", qui rappelle ces longues heures de solfège où l’on devait annoter, griffonner sur un carnet de partitions, des notes, des rythmes, des silences. Une demi-pause pour arrêter le temps, se poser, se souvenir, méditer sur son présent ou simplement improviser sur cet instrument qui nous transporte et nous inspire !

‘Red Geranium’ is the new single from Chris Coco’s EP ‘We Are All Connected’ which we will be releasing on 7th July. 
This floating and nostalgic track was inspired by the beautiful red geranium - those strong and long-suffering plants that sit out the winter on our windowsill. They never stop flowering, they never complain, they are ever beautiful. 

Chris is joined on this track by long term friend and musician Nick Cornu who is responsible for the exquisite guitar playing.

Russian Cybernetics 492 (24.11.2021) — Evgeny Svalov (4Mal), Alexander Kireev

This is a demo of the Intellijel/Cylonix Shapeshifter digital oscillator. Here, I am using it alone (no other modules!), patched into itself. I have oscillator 2 in LFO mode, modulating the Ratio, MOD B, and Shape 2 inputs. The Shapeshifter is set to "Perc Mode," and the Pulse output is plugged into the Sync input. I ended up recording about 40 minutes worth of sounds, so here are some of my favorite sections. I tried to make the crossfades obvious, so that you can hear the separate sections.

UK based artist, ActRaiser, debuts on Kraak Records with Short Stories, a ten track album of trip-hop and downtempo music. ActRaiser has been releasing liquid drum & bass and deep dubstep (among other genres) for over a decade and, after a short break, returns here with both a brand new style and a computer-free hardware setup. 

Half-way through 2020, due to the challenges faced by the COVID-19 outbreak, ActRaiser (a.k.a. Rob Sayles) felt it was the perfect time to create something different - something relaxing, uplifting and hypnotic to accompany the slower pace of life and uncertainty we now all found ourselves facing. So, equipped with his brand new Synthstrom Deluge hardware and inspired by the trip-hop music he listened to as a teenager in the 1990s, he set to work. Short Stories is the resulting fruits of his labours. The influences of trip-hop (both classic and modern) are clear, but it also draws ideas from other styles such as hip-hop, downtempo, broken beat, and jungle, with ActRaiser's unique style that fans of his liquid drum & bass will no doubt recognise. 

Rob tells us that the album was not only a way of learning how to use the Deluge, but also a way of focusing his mind and lifting his spirits during the lockdown. He set out to create something that sounded organic; something that would evoke images of late night campfires, walks in forests and on beaches, cosy nights indoors listening to dusty old vinyl records, and appreciating the world around us - especially during these strange times - and he hopes it will have a positive effect on anyone who listens.

Morrison is a difficult DJ to pigeonhole and that’s what makes him such a fascinating talent. One minute his sound is ruthlessly minimal and funky; the next it’s washed in color and vocals and emotion.

Glenn has had an unusual career path. He started off as a classical pianist, a preteen prodigy, performing  – and winning – competitions. Then came a life-changing encounter with electronic music.

Production continues apace in the new mastering studio Morrison has built in Toronto, entitled Alpine Mastering (www.alpinemastering.com). Be it sound design for video game companies like Nintendo, EA Sports, Activision or Rockstar, or his own productions, he simply doesn’t stop making and playing music.  His latest partnership with IMAX has been a thrilling experience, pushing the boundaries of electronic music to that of sound-scoring live theatre visuals.
