Created this tune in the style of a favorite guitarist Jeff Beck, whose music with Jan Hammer has been a leading influence on my synth and keyboard playing.  All done with keyboards here....

Beck Home Again

What fun pulling this together with three serious musicians.  You probably know Joe Bongiovanni and Justin Valente's awesome blues oriented guitars, and they stretch out here on this funk / soul / fusion groove.  Burning it up they are.  And joining us on Alto Sax is recording artist Matt Criscuolo.  Look for him at mattcriscuolo.com.  These guys just play their ass off here.  Started with an internet fusion loop, I added many keyboard lines to funk it up to the max, and we added these pros.  Joe takes the opening solos for the first four minutes, Justin follows, and we finish with all the guys trading off.  So much energy.  Positive energy here.  Put this on and relax.  Hope you enjoy the entire tune - an extended play jam.  Damn this is burning.... Thanks for listening.  The guys would love your thoughts....

Created this tune to combine elements of rock and fusion, and was looking to set up soloing similar to what John McLaughlin and Jeff Beck did with Jan Hammer. Another fun one with Scotland's outstanding guitarist and master chef Ian Tait.  Ian once again brings it home with his signature funky solo and rhythm playing that matches so well with my jazz fusion roots. Goin' Home - with Ian Tait / guitar

Bringing a soulful sound to SoundCloud with this one.  Lifetime recording artist, soul vocalist, saxophone and harmonica player Johnny Pugh sits in with blues guitarist extraordinaire Justin Valente and me on an emotional Ray Charles type slow jam.  What a wonderful surprise to hear Johnny's beautiful harp lines, which fit perfectly with Justin's raw electric blues energy. Created this Latin Jazz Rock tune with a very percussive latin groove over classic jazz changes.  Justin as always does a fantastic job with the guitar, helping anchor the mood while developing a fine solo to complement the salsa groove.  Put on your dancing shoes...

Latin Dancer - with Justin Valente / guitar

This one is quite a crazy funky fusion track! A great bass player Mirko Borach aka Stringburner(https://soundcloud.com/stringburner )came up with the idea to cover this track by Los Lobotomys, a fusion group that was formed by Steve Lukather in 1989 with some of his friends and talented players, like David Garfield.
Mirko asked Jamie Rhind (https://soundcloud.com/jamie-rhind) and me to join on this one to complete the blend. Jamie brought his Miles' oriented synths, I brought my loud and funk rhythm guitars. We reworked the original, added different sounds and flavours to it, turning it into "Entanglement".  All of us have one solo spot around the main theme. Quite interesting is the turn of events with a more quiet interlude after the guitar solo, something we just had to keep in from the original.

Anyways! We hope to entertain you with this cover of a great fusion track and band. Do check them out if you don't know them already! Los Lobotomys...

Check out Stephan Lipinski (Pinner) on this soon to be released fusion tribute to Miles Davis.  Pinner is an outstanding fusion electric guitarist who grew up in the suburbs of New York, moved outside of Philadelphia now, and who has his instrument down and then some.  An exceptional player who brings a similar angular and harmonic approach to improvisation that John Scofield did with Miles back in the '80s. For those of you who haven't discovered Orlando "The Don" Lund, here's your opportunity.  Orlando is a serious pro, having built a career as a writer, multi instrumentalist and producer in London during the '90s Soul Funk era, leading and creating with some of the finest contemporary jazz and funk musicians in Europe. Orlando approached me about playing on a tune I had released here, What the Funk, quickly sending 5 tasty tracks to me - a solid grooving bass line, a congas line, two rhythm guitar tracks and a George Benson style guitar solo.  I've worked them all in here, adding them to all my keyboard parts, creating some sweet soul jazz for your listening pleasure. Here's another original, Get Funky With Me, with grooving jazz guitarist Scott Nelson bringing it home.  We've set the tune up as a soul jazz groove with rhodes and piano, trading off with Hammond B3 organ and Scott's super tasty electric guitar.  Scott is new to SoundCloud, hails from Pennsylvania, and is simply a superb guitarist and musician.  On this track he brings a definitive John Scofield influence, reminding me of Sco's electric work on A Go Go, with organ and keyboard player John Medeski's group. A treat today to share another original, Fresh Air, with Stephen Lipinski on guitar.  Pinner is simply one of the finest jazz fusion guitarists here on SoundCloud...and you will hear why. Fresh Air - with Stephan "Pinner" Lipinski / guitar

1971 was an important time in music, where electricity was changing the landscape and Rock, Funk, Soul and Jazz were all merging into psychedelic grooves.  Marshal stacks were often taller than the players, the players were higher than the Marshal stacks, Strats and Les Pauls were the axes of choice, Hammond B3 Organs and Fender Rhodes keyboards could compete for volume with the guitars, and the hair was even longer than the jams.   Woodstock was a recent memory, Jimi Hendrix had just passed but had moved into the funk and soul inspired Band of Gypsies period, Sly & The Family Stone was heating it up with heavy funk and soul inspired grooves, and Miles Davis had just released the seminal Bitches Brew fusion double album that literally changed music.  This was where it was at, with each of these musicians and bands being influenced by each other.  Great stuff that produced legendary sessions and recordings and pushed music forward with power, energy, groove and volume.  

1971 commemorates this time and mindset, and recreates the feel with friends from around the world who continuously exhibit this spirit, energy and hair in their playing:

A couple of words on each of the players:  ALPHA ROOTS - Alphio was the perfect choice to add his soulful African djembe percussion voice.  One of the most prolific and inclusive musicians here on SoundCloud, always speaking with a positive voice.  Check out his often reggae and dub inspired recordings.  RICKARD FROM - my favorite B3 player here on SoundCloud.  We haven't recorded before but wanted his beautiful sound and also wanted these other heavy cats to be introduced to his Jimmy Smith type playing.  STEPHEN "PINNER" LIPINSKI - one of the hottest jazz fusion guitarists on SoundCloud, bringing more modern Scofieldesque jazz lines and harmonies to 1971.  SCOTT NELSON - another burning jazz and fusion guitarist, Scott sound combines elements of the contemporary guitar masters - Scofield, Metheny and Martino - to create his extraordinary playing.  MARCO OVERSTEEGEN - no one on SC has a closer overall sound to Hendrix, and we needed Marco's fabulous rhythm playing and soloing to anchor this 1971 mood.  JUSTIN VALENTE - Justin's my favorite blues rock guitarist, and just had to be a part of this summit, bringing us that heavy electric sound of Jimi, The Allman Bros, Freddie King and Stevie Ray Vaughn.  

So here's 1971.  Again.

The funkiest guitar player on SoundCloud is BACK, with this grooving original, Can't Get Enough Of You.  Scotland's finest has teamed up with Germany's super funky slap bass marvel Mirko "Stringburner" Borach, creating what I can only say reminds me of one of the all time greatest tunes, Mountain's Mississippi Queen.  But Mountain never had a rhythm section playing with this much funk!  Ian's letting me do my thing on keyboards, and you can hear me soloing in the right channel, trying to hold my own over this nasty rocking blues.

Paul is one of the most creative and inspiring voices here, producing so much fine music that bends genres and nails them too.  We all owe him a big thanks for vast collection of music he has recorded to inspire others to join and create.  Sweet bass grooving from him here!

Audric is the consummate musician, a musician's musician, and the top guitar expert in Philadelphia.  So I was again thrilled when he joins me here on our original, It's Not What It Seems.  With a handoff of the framework, Audric went to work - completely inspired - and turned it into this.   Not only the guitar, but additional keys, percussion, structure and ideas.   There's a lot to listen to here - from the spectacular initial guitar work to the harmonic structure and lines.

Jazz/Fusion keyboard player, composer and producer.  Marketing, advertising, publishing and sales career.  Originally from Chicago, where I developed a strong appreciation for the blues and classical, and moved to New York, where jazz and the fine arts are so deep.  Key musical influences include Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Jimi Hendrix, Joe Zawinul and Weather Report, Chick Corea and Return to Forever, John McLaughlin and the Mahivishnu Orchestra, Stanley Clarke, Scott Henderson and Tribal Tech, Jeff Beck and Jan Hammer, Mike Stern, John Scofield, Pat Metheny, Emily Remler, McCoy Tyner, Bill Evans, John Coltrane, Jimmy Smith, Joey DeFrancesco, Larry Young, Buddy Guy, Santana and Earth Wind & Fire.
