Created this tune in the style of a favorite guitarist Jeff Beck, whose music with Jan Hammer has been a leading influence on my synth and keyboard playing.  All done with keyboards here....

Beck Home Again

A traditional 12 bar blues with an aggressive solo through a favorite electric guitar patch.  Photo of the The Whailer's drummer from a concert last weekend.  He was terrific!

Electric Blues

We had a blast pulling this together.  Its a simple blues/gospel riff on organ in F, that sets up some wonderful opportunities for heavy jams over the top by Justin and Tom, two of the finest blues players I have ever recorded with.  Tom has the solos with a more treble sound, and Justin boosts his midrange and bass.  Check out their SoundCloud pages if you are not familiar.  They are bad ass, just like this tune. Bad Ass Blues - with Justin Valente and Tom Adams / guitars

What fun pulling this together with three serious musicians.  You probably know Joe Bongiovanni and Justin Valente's awesome blues oriented guitars, and they stretch out here on this funk / soul / fusion groove.  Burning it up they are.  And joining us on Alto Sax is recording artist Matt Criscuolo.  Look for him at mattcriscuolo.com.  These guys just play their ass off here.  Started with an internet fusion loop, I added many keyboard lines to funk it up to the max, and we added these pros.  Joe takes the opening solos for the first four minutes, Justin follows, and we finish with all the guys trading off.  So much energy.  Positive energy here.  Put this on and relax.  Hope you enjoy the entire tune - an extended play jam.  Damn this is burning.... Thanks for listening.  The guys would love your thoughts....

Created this tune to combine elements of rock and fusion, and was looking to set up soloing similar to what John McLaughlin and Jeff Beck did with Jan Hammer.   Norway's superb fusion guitarist, composer and recording artist Ronny Heimdal is featured, and just tears it up.  Into pieces.  Little pieces.  Check out his gallery here on SoundCloud:

Busting Out - with Ronny Heimdal / guitar

How special for me to have been a part of this collaboration with the young and extraordinary Dutch composer/guitarist/keyboard player Rients Draaisma.  While my hope was to create a forum for a call and response type solo between my synth and Rients' soaring creative guitar ala John McLaughlin and Jan Hammer in the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Rients immediately turned it up several levels to create what we have here.   The head came from a synth solo line of mine that was then adjusted by Rients to meet the intricate and changing meter.  Everything else Rients did - the composition, the most intricate drum tracks, and his very deep soloing.  All  Overnight.  Wow.

Goin' Home - with Ian Tait / guitar

Bringing a soulful sound to SoundCloud with this one.  Lifetime recording artist, soul vocalist, saxophone and harmonica player Johnny Pugh sits in with blues guitarist extraordinaire Justin Valente and me on an emotional Ray Charles type slow jam.  What a wonderful surprise to hear Johnny's beautiful harp lines, which fit perfectly with Justin's raw electric blues energy. Ever since I found SoundCloud I have wanted to record with Italy's Daniele Turani https://soundcloud.com/danieleturani one of the finest guitarists I have heard here.  Daniele is a true master of progressive rock and has recorded and produced several ambitious albums of superb music which I have - and you should too.   Surprised Daniele with this smoother fusion composition, and he graciously approved.  Check out his sweet sweet playing here on the guitar solos and rhythm. That Feeling - with Daniele Turani / guitar

This was something special! This track is a collaboration between Daniel van den Berg aka Danarchx on guitars and Jamie Rhind on Organ, strings synth and bass Synth. We aimed for a kind of Deep Durple meets Al Di Meola meets Yngwie kind of thing. It was cool and courageous of Jamie trying on a loud rock/metal piece but the result is... Well you judge!

Drag Racers on the Spanish Highway - Part 1 - Featuring Jamie Rhind

This one is quite a crazy funky fusion track! A great bass player Mirko Borach aka Stringburner(https://soundcloud.com/stringburner )came up with the idea to cover this track by Los Lobotomys, a fusion group that was formed by Steve Lukather in 1989 with some of his friends and talented players, like David Garfield.
Mirko asked Jamie Rhind (https://soundcloud.com/jamie-rhind) and me to join on this one to complete the blend. Jamie brought his Miles' oriented synths, I brought my loud and funk rhythm guitars. We reworked the original, added different sounds and flavours to it, turning it into "Entanglement".  All of us have one solo spot around the main theme. Quite interesting is the turn of events with a more quiet interlude after the guitar solo, something we just had to keep in from the original.

Anyways! We hope to entertain you with this cover of a great fusion track and band. Do check them out if you don't know them already! Los Lobotomys...

Here's another original, Get Funky With Me, with grooving jazz guitarist Scott Nelson bringing it home.  We've set the tune up as a soul jazz groove with rhodes and piano, trading off with Hammond B3 organ and Scott's super tasty electric guitar.  Scott is new to SoundCloud, hails from Pennsylvania, and is simply a superb guitarist and musician.  On this track he brings a definitive John Scofield influence, reminding me of Sco's electric work on A Go Go, with organ and keyboard player John Medeski's group. Somewhere Over The Rainbow - with Scott Nelson / guitar

It is with great sadness that Justin Valente and I are releasing a version of the classic Statesboro Blues just a couple of days following the passing of Gregg Allman, the leader, soulful vocalist and Hammond Organ player of the Allman Bros. Band.  Gregg was legendary, and such an important musical force with the merging of Blues, Rock, Soul, Country and Jazz, keeping the Allman Brothers band together and touring for over 40 years.  Statesboro Blues is one of their most famous recordings, released in 1971 on their seminal At Filmore East live album.  The Allman Bros. have been such an important influence on Justin's great playing, and so he's the perfect guitarist to join me to bring you this classic blues. We've got the great Daniele Turani and Mirko Borach joining me here on our original funk fusion tune, Ciao Bella.  If you are familiar with the seminal Billy Cobham album Spectrum, with Tommy Bolin, you will enjoy this one.  But for starters, congrats to Daniele, who about a week ago had a beautiful baby boy!  So between diapers, he was able to jump in with us here.  Daniele's a fabulous recording guitarist, with multiple albums out and a wonderful SoundCloud too, including many collaborations with top musicians.  Mirko - aka "Stringburner" - is a heavy, constantly in demand slap funk bass player, who helps set and lock this deep groove. International Tribe is a weekly mix series hosted by Thris Tian.This week’s International Tribe mix comes from Ishmael Ensemble. 

With a sound that is deeply ingrained in jazz, Ishmael Ensemble combines the worldly timbres of brass, beats and a swirling blizzard of electronics, to create mesmerising and atmospheric soundscapes.

Multi-instrumentalist & producer Pete Cunningham a.k.a. Ishmael is the brainchild behind the project and the collective have quickly come to the light of influential tastemakers such as Gilles Peterson, Mary Anne Hobbs and just about everyone else.

For his International Tribe selection, Pete Cunningham takes inspiration from his family. On the sleeve of Severn Songs 3, there's a dedication to Sam & Gordon. The latter was Pete Cunningham's Grandfather, who died in 2017 aged 94. 

During the Christmas period, Pete visited his Grandfather's old home and dug into his vast and varied record collection, the outcome, an hour-long journey through sacred Indian ragas, early spiritual jazz and South African funk.

So much fun here with Stephan Lipinski and Paul Racle as we blow through some Alpine Grooving.  Our blues original set's Paul's fine bass line down, with Pinner knowing just what to do.  Paul is one of the most creative and inspiring voices here, producing so much fine music that bends genres and nails them too.  We all owe him a big thanks for vast collection of music he has recorded to inspire others to join and create.  Sweet bass grooving from him here!  
Stephan is a hired gun too, and we've done over 50 tunes together so far, yet have not met:). But we will and that will be an important party!  Can't wait to do the same in Zurich, Paul.  You know that:)))

18 Years Later

Audric is the consummate musician, a musician's musician, and the top guitar expert in Philadelphia.  So I was again thrilled when he joins me here on our original, It's Not What It Seems.  With a handoff of the framework, Audric went to work - completely inspired - and turned it into this.   Not only the guitar, but additional keys, percussion, structure and ideas.   There's a lot to listen to here - from the spectacular initial guitar work to the harmonic structure and lines.
