The poignant 'Agnus Dei' from Bach's Mass in B Minor, with the alto part performed here on virtual trumpet ("The Trumpet" from Samplemodeling). Other instruments include 4 violins (solo violin playing duet with trumpet + 3 other violins playing in unison during trumpet tacits), cello, contrabass, and Baroque organ.

 Our best version of the classic Velvet Underground track. We tried about 10 times to record this song, but the results were never very tight. This version I think is strong enough to share.  Miss Mess and Sonny Blood absolutely back each other up to the very top, lots of support from the awesome Bryce Martin,  Tim Moore as well! At Patrick Jennings Underground Paradise Place, he calls it Unseasonable Sound Studio.

First movement of Albinoni's lovely concerto for oboe in D minor (opus 9, number 2). Note that the movement is titled "Allegro e non presto," that is, "Joyfully and not fast". Many contemporary orchestras play allegros much too fast for my taste. After all, "allegro" means happy or joyful, not fast. In this case, the composer evidently wanted to be sure that it was not played fast. And I didn't (because I can't play it much faster than I have done here, and wouldn't have even if I could). Performed on virtual instruments: Baroque oboe (Wallander Instruments), strings, and harpsichord.

This is a piano arrangement of a beautiful song by myristica. Beyond the glow is a warm song, a lovely 3/4 piece that will surelywarm the cold days of your winter. I imagined listening to this at home,while out is raining and inside the hearth is lit, playing something atthe piano. So I thought it could fit well the song's spirit to give it aloose waltz feel in the central part, while letting the sensation fromthe sorrounding ambience emerge in the end, where the piano sound getslost in the atmosphere. I hope you'll like this arrangement, I tried to mantain the theme of beyond the glow, freely changing the end and thebeginning in a way that could fit the song well.

Beyond the glow [Piano]

Bach's famous Passacaglia (and Fugue) in C minor, featuring the Toccata virtual pipe organ from Sonokinetic (https://www.sonokinetic.net/products/classical/toccata/). A very relaxing snippet of classical music performed on piano caught my attention while watching a dystopian sci-fi movie the other night; it turns out it was an excerpt from this Passacaglia. I wanted to replicate that feel, but it was originally written for pipe organ, and I felt that only an organ could do it justice. (I tried a couple other possibilities, but wasn't satisfied with them.) Nonetheless, I wanted to maintain as much gentleness as possible, and not resort to pulling out all sorts of stops, as many modern pipe organ players are prone to do. Actually, the score hinted that the drama would build up just fine without adding anything to it (except for some careful interpretation, of course). So, I used a very simple flute registration, and maintained it throughout the piece. Although some judicious registration could enhance the piece, I wanted the composition to speak for itself, and I think it works just fine "as is". Sonata 46 for violin and classical guitar

I was attending music school as an undergraduate in 1998 at the University of Texas at Austin. At the time, Matthew Gould (of Duo 46) was attending as a Doctoral student in guitar and living in Austin with his partner, violinist Beth Schneider. They had started Duo 46 maybe a few years before this. I was hanging out with them a lot in those days - just going over to their apartment or whatever. One day, Matt said to me, "Hey man, why don't you write us a piece?", and I said, "Umm.. ok."

At this point, I don't think they expected much. They hadn't had that many pieces written for them yet, and I was just starting as a composer, only in my second year of school. I decided I wanted to write something that would really show off what they could do technically and musically, and that would leave audiences breathless.

Not knowing how to begin, I lifted a line from a piece that I had just written - a solo flute piece titled "The Five Rings of Miyamoto Musashi". That became the opening line of the piece. Then, inspired by the one movement sonatas of Domenico Scarlatti, I wrote the piece based on that line. The piece is full of things that I was just discovering and becoming influenced by at the time: baroque sonatas, renaissance lute music (hence the "lute" tuning of the guitar), the tangos of Piazzolla as well as the ever-present rock and heavy metal that has always been part of my music. Since Duo 46 premiered the piece in 1999, Sonata 46 has become one of my most frequently and widely performed pieces.
